Christmas Cheer || Trades
The cold weather and the fog were not going to put a damper on Trish’s holiday cheer. This was her favorite time of year and the gloom outside of the apartment could be easily ignored in favor of the Christmas hideaway she was creating while playing classic Christmas music as her soundtrack. Twinkling lights were hung up around the windows, framing the window panes that she lightly frosted to get the look of constant snow. Tasteful amounts of tinsel were adorned strategically around the room, on the lip of the counter, on the mantel piece, basically anywhere it made sense and the extra length was draped around her neck like a scarf. During this time of the year she was unstoppable. If she wanted to dress the dogs up as reindeer and Sasha as an elf, she was pretty certain she could do so without much protesting from her husband or she could at least convince him. For now she was content to leave them alone as she contemplated her surroundings with more decorations in her hands.
She was not done yet, not even close. The tree was being saved for later, the whole process of picking it out, bringing it home and decorating it was something they’d do together, but she still had a few things to accomplish. Picking up a festively framed picture, she smiled at the memory. It was taken the year before by one of their friends. After a night of letting her drag him around a pretty incredible light festival, she had wrapped her arms around him beneath his jacket to offer him her warmth against the cold. They shared what they thought was a private moment, a light kiss in a light flurry of snow and it was caught on camera. In hindsight, she was very glad it was. He had been so cold but for her he had braved the weather. Gently placing the frame onto the mantel with their collection of other memories, she couldn’t help but get caught up in the nostalgia of the holiday. She kept making plans upon plans, from baking Christmas cookies to spending an entire day snuggled up and watching classic holiday films – anything that they could do to have another amazing Christmas.
Her smile widened as she thought about the fact that one day, it wouldn’t be just the two of them either. The thought kept her pretty occupied as she moved to start a roaring fire in their fireplace before moving around the room to light a couple of candles. She dimmed the lights just to provide the proper comforting holiday feel just in time to hear the door and the arrival of her love. She moved slowly towards the door, softly swaying to the music as the song changed to Bing Crosby’s ‘White Christmas.’ Before he had much of a chance to do anything more than close the door, she was already on him. Her arms wrapped around his neck and pulled him down to her lips for a solid, lingering kiss. The moment ended as she pulled back breathless with a delighted grin before pointing to the sprig of mistletoe hanging above them, “It’s bad luck to break a tradition…or something like that must be true.” Trish chuckled softly as she untangled herself from him and gestured to the apartment, “what do you think? I’ve got a few more things to do and we still need a tree, but I think it’s definitely kicking last year in the ass.”
