The booth was set up nicely, placed deliberately a few feet into the entrance of Prosper park so they could catch as much traffic as possible. The youth and high school athletics groups had come together to do a bake sale/concession stand during the event. If they were able to raise enough, it meant more equipment and possibly being able to go to training camps for some of them. Rhett was busy making sure everyone was in place and greeting those who came up. Then, of course, making sure Daisy and Colt were staying nearby so he could keep an eye on them. Prosper was a fairly safe place, but it only took one malicious person to change that. It was better just to be safe. 

He stood behind one of the younger players he coached for baseball while they greeted a customer. “Hey, what can we get for you today?” The younger one motioned to the sign behind them to show what they had. “And beyond all that we got here a mess of baked treats and some sparklers for the young or young at heart. All proceeds go to the athletics program here in Lockhorn county.” He finished the pitch with a smile and a quick nod.

alec was not patriotic but he sure did love an excuse to get day drunk in public and blow shit up when it came time for fireworks. although, he did that shit most days, but at least it was socially acceptable on a holiday like today. sitting on an old beat up lawn chair with a six pack cans of budweiser by his feet, he cracked one open as the high school marching band did a questionable rendition of the star spangled banner. “i feel like we should make a drinking game out of how many flat notes they make so this is a little more bearable,” he said to the nearest person with a laugh. “you with me?”

who: open where: on the streets around town (either hazard or prosper, dana goes to both!)

they didn’t want to seem suspicious, looking out from over the tortoise shell sunglasses that hung a little low on their nose. it had been a little while since the last panic event, and dana had been on edge to find out what was next. it was such a thrill to stand there, the energy around them pulsing as they watched those brave people make the leap. truly, it showed dana what a unique tradition they had in Lockhorn County, and how crucial it was for the future generations that it stay. however, dana knew people. enough experience had shown them that people are really bad at keeping secrets, especially when things like money and notoriety come into play. For this reason, Dana had left their beloved birds for the day in order for them to scope out the nearby area, see if any clues were there about the next challenge and then, find a way to protect those secrets from being exposed by the local law. 

they were so focused on their eyes laying on each surface around them to notice the person they nearly ran right into. “oh, i did not see you there.” a thing people say but in this case, actually true. “how, um, how are you this day, today?”

It’s not like she thought the garage was the hottest place in town, far from it, unless of course you were talking solely based on temperature. But, the day was unbelievably slow, probably in part to the fact that she found herself with little desire to make it through it this morning. Thankfully, morning had given way to afternoon, and the last time she’d disappeared under the President of the damn PTA’s stupid Ford, she’d been an hour away from freedom. The problem with that, was that sense of time would never be her strong suit. Instead, she allowed herself to get caught up in the way that mechanics became an escape, or that this job was monotonous enough to create a pattern for her to focus on. Whatever it was, the rhythm came, and after it, her voice. Her mother had taught her to sing, putting the range in her vocals from a young age, and it was the only thing she hadn’t stopped doing out of nothing but pure spite. One song faded in, the next that seemed to click over on the radio was Landslide by Fleetwood Mac, it should have been a guilty pleasure but the way she managed to spin it sounded like it should be anything but guilty. She was so concentrated between the work and the words, Parish didn’t even hear footsteps, or the shop door open, absolutely lost in her own world laying back on the creeper, ring on her free hand tapping the rhythm on the undercarriage.

open starter @panic-hub​ when: the day after the jump, evening where: prosper park 

josie had slept through the night, blissfully unware of who took part in the antics the night before. of course there was talk of it at work, but josie had her son to take care of so she couldn’t go out to follow the clues to devil’s mouth like half the county did. plus, for some reason, all of the sitters in town were busy. odd. but now that she was off work, she could sense that there was something in the air after whatever happened happened. hushed voices talking to each other, people looking over their shoulders. or maybe it was always like that and josie was just paying attention now. 

having just picked up johnny from day care, josie decided it was nice enough to let the little guy play at the park. mostly it was selfish, wanting him to get out the last of his energy before taking him home and worrying about dinner and getting things done for the night. sitting on one of the benches, half watching johnny and half reading a book she’s been working on for months, she was so close to finishing it but found herself putting off getting to the end. looking up from her book when someone had joined her, she offered a smile. “do you ever get that empty feeling when you finish a book, or is that just me?” she asked, setting the book down on her lap. “maybe i just don’t like endings.”

“Just so y’all know, I’m here because everybody is here, not because I think this is a good idea or nothin’ cos it ain’t,” Darby announced, though absolutely nobody had given her any sort of reason to thrust such a declaration upon them - though it didn’t stop her from continuing, “I still think anybody jumpin’ tonight is as dumb as a box of hair,” she would claim that she was there for nothing more than to embrace the community spirit and yet she wasn’t sparing any opportunity to insult the community members who had decided to play Panic that year. Go figure. 

“I mean, surely you ain’t jumpin’, are ya?”  she posed the question but it lacked sincerity, perhaps due to the somewhat facetious look on her face. It was true that she didn’t know who was or who wasn’t jumping but she wasn’t asking out of the God lovin’ goodness of her heart, no sir, she was asking so she knew who to judge most harshly that evening.

STATUS: Open @panic-hub​ WHERE: The Devil’s Mouth WHEN: June 28th, some time after his jump

Riggs couldn’t be the only one who was hungry right now. He looked around, scanning the crowd. He was surprised to find people only nursing beers or pop but hardly anyone was snacking on something. You’d think people would bring something to munch on to watch the most exciting thing to ever happen to Lockhorn come back after 15 years but no siree Bob, everyone was snack-less as ever. Jeez, did these people eat air when they went to see movies too? Guess he was the only one who thought he’d need an energy boost after whatever the first challenge Panic was. He burrowed his hand into the pocket of his jeans and pulled out a bag of peanuts, tearing the pack open with his teeth and shoveling a handful into his mouth. After watching a couple of people trek up to the Tooth and dive on down, Riggs came to an understanding of why no one would want to snack during this thing. Your stomach got that weird feeling whenever someone made the leap, falling to your ass for a split second when you weren’t sure if they were going to hit the rocks or the water. It killed his appetite real quick, leaving him holding the small snack in his hands as he watched contestant after contestant make their way up to the Tooth and down into the Devil’s Mouth. Some moments after his appetite died, Riggs felt eyes on him, turning his head to speak to whoever was staring at him. Or more particularly, what he had in his hands. “Want some of my nuts?” He asked, a small grin forming. “They’re nice and salty.”

STATUS: Open WHERE: The Windy Shot Bar & Grill WHEN: Evening, 8PM-ish, June 24th (the night before her birthday)

The Windy Shot wasn’t normally where you’d find Pippa. In fact, it was one of the last places you’d ever find her. But tonight, she felt the need for change. Something different. And perhaps something stronger than a glass of water or her usual cup of tea. She felt awkward taking a seat by the bar, out of place amongst its usual patrons, but she figured it would provide her with the best opportunity to talk to someone tonight. Even if it was just to the bartender. Movies told her bartenders delivered great conversation. Sometimes just the conversation you might need on a night like this. She glanced at the watch on her wrist. She had four hours. Four hours until it was midnight. She sighed. Looking around, she caught the eye of someone passing her. "Hey–” She started, feeling like such a nuisance already and she’s only said a single word. “Um, sorry.” She pressed her lips together – a bit embarrassed – before carrying on. “What– What’s your favorite drink here?” Was that a weird way to start a conversation? Probably. Crap. Pippa added to her words. “I’m just looking to try something new and I don’t really know what to get,” she admitted, slight flush to her cheeks. The last time she was at The Windy Shot was three years ago and she’d ordered a beer that she hated every drop of.
