Asynja: “Aunt Callisto... how did you learn how to sing like that?”
Callisto: “How did I learn?”
Asgard: “Yeah! Mama doesn’t sound like that when she sings...”
Aesir: “Though... Alf sounds similar to you when she attempts to...”
Callisto: “Hmmm... it takes lots of practice, loves. Alf has been singing since the moment she was born, or so is my understanding of the child.”
Asgard: “You’re right. Alf never ceases her squabbling.”
Asynja & Aesir: “Asgard!”
Asynja: “That’s rude!”
Aesir: “Say it again, I dare you.”
Midgard: “Bwuah?”
Asynja: “No, never you mind them dearest.”
Callisto: *laughs* “You are quite the rowdy bunch, aren’t you?”
Aesir: “That’s what Mama says too.”
Narrator:
“As things were building in the outside world, life for those within the walls of the quaint little Wave cottage was peaceful as ever. Almost boring, one might say. Perhaps this was why the children had gathered around their ‘Aunt Callisto’ and demanded a song. It was not often that they did so, for they boasted a great amount of manners. However... sometimes children must be children. It was Callisto that often indulged them to ease their apparent boredom from the everyday tasks that they found set before them.”
~Meanwhile~
Callisto: *humming and strumming*
Laila: “Shall we go play with him, then?”
Amortentia: “Ah, I believe it is you who should go and play. I have deprived you from such pleasures for so long.”
Laila: “You are too kind. I will go... I do believe a change in government is in order, do you not?”
Amortentia: “Sly... sly little pet. Very well. Do as you wish. I have other matters to attend to.”
Laila: “What next, my Lady?”
Amortentia: “Next?”
Laila: “Well. I do believe that creature of yours was here for a reason. Who has earned your ire this time?”
Amortentia: “Clever girl.”
Laila: “Why, of course I am. One must have such a trait to survive in the Queen’s court.”
Amortentia: “I see. Since you asked so politely... I do believe the emperor of Orlemroth requires a visit from us. He appears to have forgotten who is truly in charge of that country.”
Laila: *grins* “How exciting.”
Amortenia: “Then we are in agreement.”
Laila: “Yes, but-”
Amortentia: “You would not want to disappoint me now, would you my Pet?”
Laila: “...no, never.”
Amortentia: “Good girl.”
Laila: “I- er- appreciate the sentiment. However... that is not truly what you wanted to say, now was it? ...I apologize for overstepping... but-”
Amortentia: “Stay.”
Laila: “I- what?”
Amortentia: “Remain by my side. All will be accomplished through your aid. I have already seen the future. You are still here.”
Laila: “You- I do not understand.”
Amortentia: “Is it unpleasant? Unthinkable? Stay here. Sit with me as we watch the world bend beneath us.”
Laila: “I owe you much, my Lady... but that-”
Amortentia: “As am I indebted to you. I cannot interact with the aes sídhe as you can.”
Laila: “You are not wrong...”
Context Break:
Aes sídhe (or aos sí) is another term for the Tuatha Dé Danann, which is the race of supernaturals (faeries) that the Faerie in this story are heavily based on. To my understanding, Tuatha Dé Danann & Aes Sídhe are interchangeable.
Amortentia: “You are a very good sort to have about.”
Laila: “I should hope so. Though my contribution to this cause has yet to become substantial.”
Amortentia: “Not quite, my Pet. Not quite.”
Laila: “...?”
Amortentia: “...”
