So my week’s been kinda crazy… I had a bad wave of dysphoria that prompted me to go top surgeon hunting. And I found a surgeon who claimed they scheduled consultations like a month out. In my grand scheme of transition related things that was totally fine bc I wasn’t planning on getting top surgery until like May anyways. Well its three days later and I had my consultation today at noon. I was super nervous and the front desk staff on the zoom call did a great job at just talking to me while we waited for the top surgeon to join the call. Dr. Blechman walked me through options for peri first since he thought I would be a good candidate for it, and he told me about di too just in case we had to move to that procedure day of. He was super nice and helpful and I honestly was really vibing with him (also turns out we graduated from the same fucking high school so like, small world) So the consultation went well and he was like “you’ll need to see our therapist to get a letter of approval since you aren’t seeing anyone currently” which is no problem, I was expecting that, and “you’ll get a call from someone in the office about insurance stuff and next steps to get you scheduled and stuff too sometime next week”. Well about three hours after that I got a call from the office who said theyve worked with my insurance before and with that letter from the therapist its 100% covered. Absolutely fuckin floored me. And then she also wanted to give me a rough timline so she said currently they were booking out til october for surgery. And I’d been kinda throwing the idea around of going home for thanksgiving anyway… and november is after october… and I told my mom that I could maybe get top surgery sooner than i’d planned and she said she’d be happy to have me home. So yeah, now I have a thirty minute consult with the therapist next week and a plan to schedule top surgery for the week of thanksgiving. The last couple days have been so mind bogglingly quick in terms of all this stuff so I just wanted to write a quick chain of events so I can remember down the line.
Anyway that was super long, I’m sorry. Props to Dr. Blechman and his team for making this super quick and blowing me away with their response times. I am super thankful that this all came together so quickly and painlessly. Here’s to hoping the waiting game is the hardest part of all of it.
