I am happy to announce that I will finally be debuting my very first book length comic Dr. Murder and the Island of Death at SPX next month! 95 pages of multicolored spandex realism coming out in English from the Danish small press “Backyard Barons.” It’s gonna look like this!
The book follows the titular Dr. Murder on an existential deroute, having been left by his arch nemesis Johnny America in favor of a different super villain.
On the way down the drains of life he tries to reconnect with old flames and acquaintances, encounters a baboon in a co-dependent relationship with a bomb, and gets punished by dolphins.
Dr. Mudrder and the Island of Death is a book about beauty and illussions, about longing for those things you don't have and failing to cherish those you do, and... what the fuck is quinoa?
In addition to tabling at SPX, I will also be teaching a workshop on “storytelling with space and depth” for @comicsworkbook (sign up link to come) and participate in a panel discussion with fellow Danish cartoonists.
After SPX I will hit up Copacetic Comics in Pittsburgh (tbd) and eventually end my tour at @CXC in Columbus. Here I will also be teaching the same workshop as well as tabling.
I am perpetually shitting my pants at the thought of getting my first actual book out there. It’s been a long time coming since I wrote and drew the bulk of it in 2017 and only just now got around to giving it the final touches.
I am extremely grateful to everyone who helped me in the process of making this book and getting it out there, including Ezra Claytan Daniels, Sofie Louise Dam, Peter Dyring Olsen, Steven T. Seagle, Sophie Goldstein, Dennis Gade Kofod and my publisher Baggaardsbaroner and many more.
I’ve been looking forward to this for so long and the thought of getting this in the hands of an audience is at once exciting and terrifying. Mostly I’m just interested in having a dialogue with an audience rather than sitting in this echo chamber of my own thoughts.
If you follow me here please swing by and say hello, even if you’re not going to buy the book. I love hearing from people who connect with my work and while I draw mostly for my own sake, rainy days only get better from knowing I make something people can connect with.
That’s all for now, hope to see you at SPX or CXC! That last image is my face! I will also bring a very small batch of robot zines, the last ones in print!
