6 for Kol, 12 for Bats, 18 for Patel, 24 for OC of choice
KOLYAT: Who will they take advice from, no matter what it is? Who won’t they take advice from, no matter what it is?
They’ll listen to: Oriana, Hoorik, Bailey. Kolyat also had a brilliant teacher at C-Sec academy who specialised in Crime Scene Analysis, and he understood his own empathy a little better:
One of my favourite mentors at C-Sec Academy was a gentle, softly spoken salarian who took his CSI work very seriously. He taught me that murder victims should be treated with respect; their bodies are not ‘vics’ or ‘corpses’ or ‘stiffs.’ They were people, and we should treat them as such. “We are at the end of their journey, Krios,” he had said. “It is our privilege to be.”
Disconnect, Chapter 1.
Patel, Bats and some of the other officers get side-eyed, but he will listen to both of them on matters of slavery, Trarverse and Terminus issues.
BATS: Do they like romance in the books they read (or in the book they’re in)?
Bats has a different girl each month at the moment, and will for a while. He had one that got away, part of his old Huntress unit. He doesn't talk much about her.
He has very clear opinions on the ships from his shitty asari animes, and used to troll their official messageboards on the extranet about it until he was banned.
Patel and kissing: tongue or no tongue?
(Vivi why. Why, vivi.)
He’s full on still, him and his wife. Proper duelling tongues, too. Their poor daughter takes one look at it in the kitchen and just:
“I just want to refill my water.”
Hoorik: Honesty or charity?
Both, even if she knows her donation will be spent on cheap Lower Ward moonshine.
It’s a learned trait. Her mother visited the Citadel and almost emptied her account to anyone with a sob story. “They need it more than me, elskling. That man needs to get home to Surkesh to see his clutch...”

5. How did they flirt with one another before they began a relationship?
really obliviously. throughout mass effect 1 and 2, wynonna was really swept up in her health and often any passes ash made would go completely over her head. and she did genuinely like ash, they spent a lot of time together, on and off the battlefield. their relationship didn’t reach fruition until after the reaper war begins, and wynonna nearly watches ash die. it blossoms pretty similar to canon from there.
prior to this, ash will comment on wynonna’s bravery as an l2 biotic, or about her charity work with mentally ill youth. she’ll ask her about the functions she’s been to, or the panels she’s been on. ash admires her very much. this deepens when they get to know each other after kaidan’s death, with wynonna revealing her faith to ash -- the two bond a lot over their views of god, life and the universe.
the flirting deepens to ash making remarks about how beautiful wynonna views the universe, how wonderful she is, how they obviously have a lot in common. wynonna blushes some, returns the remarks, and then gushes to joker about how lovely ash is.
into mass effect 2, they are at odds, and having ash reject her on horizon is soul-crushing. wynonna didn’t realise how much she relied on their relationship until that moment -- and how much she missed ash. thankfully, they work through their differences, and it’s two very different but still very much alike women that come together in me3 to be together.
6. What moment made each person first realize they were in love with the other?
for ash, it was wynonna’s faith. wynonna struggled a lot reconciling her identity as a christian with both, her biotic implants and her sexuality (a lesbian).ash admired this, loved how she could help wynonna with this (as a bisexual christian herself).
for wynonna, it was when ash rejected her on horizon. that moment in pivotal in realising, for her, how much ash meant to her and how much it hurt to lose her.
7. Who made the first move?
wynonna. which is surprising, given ash did a lot of the flirting throughout me1. but after their fight in me2, after mars in me3, wynonna realises how much she needs ash and how she wants her in her life. given wynonna’s health is a lot more stable now -- she has diagnosed bipolar disorder and depression -- she feels she can fully commit herself to ash and her relationship.
Shakarian, but I still read some of it from good writers.
Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
Hate’s not a word I’d use, more nonplussed. Never been fussed about Kaidan but a few have changed my onion. I know he means a lot to people, for obvious reasons.
Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?*
Thane Lives postwar stuff makes me feel empty inside, like it’s a weird dreamscape and any moment Shepard will wake up from it.
Fluffy postwar stuff in general actually, I think there would be a massive cost. Even if you and your sweetie retire to X colony for a much deserved rest, there would still be repercussions and ripples from the war.
Christ I’m so fucking picky with what I read now. Essentially I like a bit of weight and realism to my fanfic, even with magical space glowy stuff and weird plot holes. That’s it, really.
Most disliked arc? Why?
Thane’s death was ineptly handled.
I do not like what they did to Ash in ME3 either. It’s like they spent all that time giving her makeover and forgot how to write her.
You always know true north? Are you a fucking compass? What?!? What!!?!? I don’t even know left from right and if I walk into a building I don’t know how to get out, but you know truth north?!?!?
1) I know how to spot Polaris in the night sky. (Find the plough/big dipper and see where it points.)
2) I can read the position of the sun.
Now if I’m below the equator I’m fucked obviously- I can only do Northern Hemisphere.
(I used to be a Girl Guide/Scout, I am not Bear Grylls. I got a badge, though!)
