who are your top 5 Brad characters and why?

Oooh, difficult to boil it down to a top five, but I’ll try!

5. Dr. Gediman, Alien Resurrection – I have to say that the first couple of times I watched this movie, it wasn’t for this character at all. I had to go back and rewatch it after I first saw Dourif in LOTR-TTT. But I do like how he played Gediman, with a (sort of) innocent wonder at the horrific creature he’s about to set loose (involuntarily, in this case), the fun little ponytail, the dialogue with Ripley. All good! (Gediman: I am about to get killed! Isn’t science fantastic?!)

4. Jack Dante, Death Machine – A classic freak-character, but with loads of screentime? Perfect! I like the character design, the insanity and the – yes – vulnerability that makes Dante human (well, at least a bit) instead of a cartoon villain. I mean, there’s not a lot, but enough to create an interesting character. Plus he’s cute.

3. Martin Klamski, Istanbul – I like how he plays out the vulnerability of this character. The whole movie is full of contradiction; a sorta-sweet road trip movie about a dark subject, a confident, traveled guy on the verge of breaking… and a soft soundtrack covering the whole thing.

2. Lon Suder, Star Trek Voyager – Neat character concept, far too little screen time. But what was, was really nice. I like how he makes Suder really intense while also super restrained, a string waiting to burst. And I like that it’s a villain character who gets to have a redemption arc. (A favourite flavour of mine!)

1. Gríma Wormtongue, The Two Towers – The character that introduced me to Brad Dourif. Old favourite, not surprisingly my top one. I just like what he brought to the character, and the aesthetics of movie Gríma hit all the right buttons for me. (Oh yes, that one, please!)

Happy 73. Birthday Brad Dourif!

He had so many amazing roles in all this decades! Personally I can't decide which I like the most. He played in a few well-known movies with a bigger budget, but he has so many interesting characters in TV-Stuff and B-movies too. Lon & Jack are both my favourite, but his creepyness level in Exorcist and X-files gave me goosebumps too. And David Bell, Bud the horseplayer, Brother Edward and Billy broke my heart. I love his intense and tragic roles.
