so I was listening to my Area 51 Husbands playlist and then I started thinking about how in those 20 years, Milton probably attends a support group for people who lost loved ones during the invasion, and he meets another guy who lost his husband. His name is James, and he’s sweet and kind and he has a normal job and a normal life ( He’s, idk maybe he runs a small business, maybe he’s a chef) and they start talking
they go out for coffee, and then dinner a few times, and its nice
because they both can understand what the other man is going through
and Milton talks about it with David, with his therapist (because of course he has a therapist), and accepts that its been 10 years, Brackish would want him to move on, to try and find happiness.
So when James asks him to dinner at his apartment, Milton says yes.
but once he’s at James’ place, and he’s sitting in the man’s living room with a glass of wine watching the other man cook up something that smells fantastic, he suddenly balks. Surrounded by pictures and mementos of James’s dead spouse-
He can’t do it. Because Brackish isn’t dead, Brackish is just sleeping, and he could wake up, at any time- and how would he feel if he woke up and found out that Milton had been with someone else?
He makes his apologies and excuses himself, rushes back to Area 51. Stops in the doorway and just watches Brackish sleep, and all of the anxiety that had been building up for days and weeks since this all started seemed to melt. Because Brackish would wake up some day.
and Milton knew that he’d be waiting for him.
