You sighed to yourself, a little in relief, but more so because you were so exhausted. It was the last week of the semester and you had just finished all of your exams. You had two in the same day and two more the last two days of finals week.
If this semester didn’t kill you, surely your lack of sleep would. But it was Friday night and you were free, at last. It had also been a week since you last saw him. You had made him promise not to bother you during your exams, as he was far too distracting, though you preferred not to tell him that.
Wen Junhui. He popped in on you at the most random times, ever since he had cornered in a dark alley when you were 12, scolding you for walking home alone so late. It hadn’t been your fault, cram school decided to extend your tutoring way past sunset. He made sure you got home safely, walking you there before making you promise to keep his secret. It wasn’t often a vampire gave up a free meal, after all.
Ever since then, he would visit you “to check up on you,” he called it. You figured he was just making sure you didn’t squeal on him. That and he got a kick out of startling you and becoming a nuisance for hours.
He asked you questions constantly, about your schooling, your personal life, your interests. He made you interested in politics even, because he wanted you to know how the city covered up their existence. The government knew exactly what they were and the danger they posed to society, and yet did nothing.
He revealed to you the news stories that were coverups for vampire-related homicides and you were always able to spot the keywords, the older you got. Drug overdose with a very clear injection shot, heart attack on the street, and thinking back on it, they were lame cover-up stories.
You pushed the button at the crosswalk and waited for the light to change, brushing over the top of your hand. You told everyone it was a birthmark but it was really a reminder, of the oath you had taken years ago. In the shape of a star, for as long as you lived, you were not to tell a soul about Jun, or else you would die if you did.
He had the same marking on his right hand, to never trick you into telling someone, or else he would lose his immortality. It was a pact to protect the other, you hadn’t trusted him in the slightest when you first met and now, years had passed and the mark was an afterthought.
You didn’t want to share him with the world, he was your little secret. You wanted to keep him all to yourself, he was your vampire that bothered you at least once a year, it had gotten more frequent recently but you didn’t get a chance to ask why.
He never let you forget how human you were compared to him, his insane amount of strength as well as his desire for your blood. He never failed to remind you of the precautions you had to take around him.
You made it back to your apartment and turned the key in the lock, hearing it click. You frowned, you hadn’t locked the bottom when you left this morning, so why was it locked now? Pushing the door open just slightly, you recognized the ever-so-familiar silhouette of Jun waited behind it.
“Why, hello there, pretty thing.” He grinned, showing his fangs. He leaned in close to you as you closed the door behind you, you could hear him inhale and it caused goosebumps on your skin. “You smell divine.” He said, his eyes flashed red as he blinked once, making it disappear.
“You waited for me to finish finals. Thank you.” You told him, putting your stuff down on the table. You turned to look at him and he just smirked at you.
“Of course, ______. You asked me to.” He curled a strand of your hair behind your ear and you made the mistake of looking at him directly. You were in his grasp and he knew it, he beckoned you to walk forward and you did so, your body moving without your command.
You were his to do with what he wished. He had always warned you about looking at him when he was hungry, but you were tired and let your guard down.
“Someone’s asking for it.” He teased. Your eyes went wide as he leaned in close again, his nose grazing your cheek. He breathed in your scent once more, and you made a muffled noise, unable to move your lips to enunciate words at all.
He chuckled at that, “Yes?” He asked playfully, “Use your words, darling.” He lightly tapped your lips and you gasped, feeling control being given back to you, if only in your lips.
“Kiss me?” You asked daringly. It was the first time you were serious about the request, you had joked many times as you both knew it was dangerous to play this game. But it had been long enough and you spent far too much time, just thinking about the idea of his lips on yours for you to not be curious.
Jun smiled and you watched it reach his eyes, a real smile, for once. “It’ll be my pleasure.”
