talking about arthur
Hank's arm wraps securely around Caes form, the man had burrowed into his side and was currently sprawled across the couch. Hanks arm remained one of the pinnacles that kept Carlin in the semi upright position. His cheek pressed to the top of Caelins head and his hand is comfortably draped over the nurses heart. A heart that's soft beat is a reassuring drum to the peaceful evening.
Abel has Caelins legs in his lap where he in turn sits on the far end of the couch. A blanket drapped carefully over their sleeping companions body. Jared was seating on the ground, his long legs stretched in front of him as another commercial came on talking about jewelry and treating women right. Right being with diamonds.
"Do you think Arthur is going to figure out about Gabe?" Jareds eyes, glassed over from thinking, speaks what they all seem to be thinking about.
"I don't know man." Abel shrugs, or starts to until he realizes he's moving Cae to much. His voice moving to a softer tone to try and prevent the nurse from waking. "Arthur's a little blind right now. Considering how in love he is."
It wasn't like Abel to criticize their team lead. In fact he was often the first person to defend him since Hank was more likely to throw the man under the bus.
For once Hank is quiet, his gaze is on Caelins eyelashes and how impossibly long they are. He doesn't even nod along with the topic, he just seems stuck watching the sleeping angel that has oh so carefully situated himself in the three of them.
Jared is careful not to move at all, Caelins hand is just on his shoulder from where he's been carding through his hair until he passed out. Cal was in the kitchen cooking dinner for once, soup for the cold weather and the atmosphere around them was the warmest they'd all had in a long time. None willing to break the moment.
Still the conversation picked up again once Cae had shifted to get comfortable again. "Have you considered that maybe he already has a hunch and is just waiting for Gabe to talk about it."
"If he had a hunch," Hanks voice was a little louder and he has to make a physical attempt to lower it. "He probably would have mentioned Cae as a way to talk about the whole thing." There he went throwing Arthur under the bus.
"It's weird that he's not picking up on it." Jared commented and for a moment you see his shrug starting before his body suddenly remembers that a certain someone's hand is already there on his shoulder.
"You'd think Mr observant would of notice." Hank has to resist rolling his eyes because he can all but hear Cae chiding at him about being nice. Especially to Arthur. So instead his lips press together but they can hear the eye roll in the way he says it.Silence falls for a little bit, the sound of boiling water and Cal moving around the kitchen fills the home.
"Remember the first time we had to figure out all of that?" Jared cracks a smile at the memory because boy had they been idiots at the time. He clearly remembered the way Arthur had just rubbed his face when he heard his squad drilling their new squad mate with a billion different questions.
Ignorance was bliss and an embarrassment to Arthur. Lots of "So what parts do you have?" And "How does that work?" Not to mention the thousand questions about military service. A group of ignorant guys with a team lead chucking things at them every other word.
"Yeah which is why it's weird that he's not picking up on that. But how about not reminding me how stupid we sounded." Hank has a quick quip back being he'd been just as ignorant. It had been a crash course and awkward as hell since Caelin had been assigned to them for a month. Stuck with five idiots.
Cal poked into the conversation from the kitchen, "Cae probably taught Arthur everything before we ever met him but I bet you 200$ that he didn't know Jack shit before that."
Hank smiles but his arm wraps more securely around Caelin, making sure that he was still there. "And I'm grateful for your patience with us idiots." Spoken towards Caes sleeping form as he sinks into a more comfortable position nice and slow as it was.
Abel nods his agreement and Jareds head tilts back to catch a quick look. Yeah the three idiots would be grateful every time they even had the chance to breath the same air as the nurse curled up so snuggly around them. And all that came with it. Cal set out bowls for all of them because he could practically hear Jared's stomach growling from the kitchen. Bread and soup handed out and he watches Hank kiss the top of Caes head before they try to get him to wake.
"Hey good lookin'" Cal already handed Abel his food and Jared is half done with his hunk of bread. "Orange juice and vitamin d and b12." He's got the nurses winter regiment down pat holding out orange juice he's managed to make himself. "Made soup and you need food before you decide to go back to sleep."
He waits for Caes eyes to open and he hands Hank the juice so he can go grab the rest of the portions. "You know if you're this tired....." Hank understands the basics but he doesn't want Cae to worry since he had practically passed out on them in moments. "Just try to finish the juice and vitamins. I can eat your portion of the soup." Kissing the top of his head one more time for good measure.
