basically andrew macdonald became an amazing surgeon, so amazing he spent more time building up his career and EVERYTHING instead of settling down and having a family. he fathered mary at a pretty old age compared to most, and his sister was like??? you sure this is a good idea?? and he was like well she is my daughter
mary macdonald ii was an accident, andrew didn’t usually make accidents but one night he did, he let a little too loose and one of his colleagues and him got together it was a BIG thing Think Grey’s Anatomy ( LOL ) and basically she had the baby. left the baby in andrew’s care. and left.
andrew named her mary bc literally he was so distraught but also didn’t know what else to name this child?? he was so unprepared for fatherhood despite being a doctor and knowing what to do he was like?? THE FUCK?? and his sister wasn’t any more prepared. she’d lost friends and people she considered family and was still trying to heal from that.
so basically mary grew up in a household where her dad was constantly working, her aunt was constantly there but really lenient and just v weird in the good way. she showed her her comic book collections, her queen records, they danced and sang and partied. tea parties with aunt mary were the best, and soon auntie moved in. this little girl became her life and she wanted to make sure that she had a parent there like she never really had.
mary grew up so loved, and she knows that. questions about her mother come up but her aunt just told her that she didn’t need people who didn’t want her around. mary knew she had to be self sufficient emotionally at a young age but also learned to be honest with her feelings. even when it made her dad uncomfortable.
when mary started showing signs of magic her aunt became ECSTATIC and andrew, her dad, was tired but excited too. she’d only heard stories and seen her aunts old apartment in wizarding london. gotten ice cream. but that world was now HERS too. she ran into the wizarding world with a vigor and a passion, she blazed into it and didn’t stop and hasn’t stopped since.
mary is without a doubt the most loyal and fierce friend you can have but she is also very brutally honest and it could rub ppl the wrong way. very loud. she cares about ppls feelings, sure, but she cares more that she was honest with them for her own sanity as well. she’s sometimes very hedonistic and will just give in to what she wants as opposed as to what she should be doing.
she really doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life. she really doesn’t and that scares her. she doesn’t have a passion to do one sort of thing, she gets overall above average and good grades. she doesn’t have a passion and is pretty worried she never will have one.
also mary is nb, she realized she was in her fourth year, and though she doesn’t really struggle all the time with it she does think about it a lot. she does define herself and proclaim herself queer and wonders how she can become more in touch with it.
