My First Lunar New Year
The salon I work at is owned by a Vietnamese family, and they go all out for the Lunar New Year!!! I was so thrilled I got to experience and learn their traditions and how to bring in good luck for the year.
First, they don't throw their trash out for the day. It shouldn't even go into the bin, and no cleaning should be done. At the salon, the hair was swept up to the wall and the trash wasn't taken to the dumpster, all will be done first thing tomorrow. Laundry was done at work because we didn't have enough towels to last the whole day.
Gladiolus for good luck, and everyone wore red for good luck (my hellenic pagan self has some other awesome uses for this flower, too)
It's the year of the dog! Money gifts are given in red envelopes.
I didn't get the name of this, but super prankster, would smack you in the face with the fan.
DRAGON DANCERS and FIREWORKS
There are dinners and games afterwards with the family.
It was so fun to be part of their celebration, I learned a lot, even if it was just the basics. If you celebrate the Lunar New Year/Chinese New Year, what do you do?
