Was in the mood for writing and a friend suggested I do something about this AU again so I started... and I couldn't stop. Well in the end I did because I'm really tired, but this is pretty much the result. It's unfinished and I'm hoping you guys can tell me if I should continue. (though I probably will because I really like the challenge of writing Karkat's dragon form)

“Have you ever tried morphing just one part of your body?”

“And why the hell would I ever want to do that?”

“I don’t know, just a thought.”

“Hm.”

Hands behind his head, he played with her suggestion for a few minutes. It did seem possible, but he had never bothered to try. More often than not, his transformations had been sporadic and impulsive, but of recent, he had managed to get reign on them. It had taken awhile – with a frustratingly unlimited amount of prompting from the blind girl to his right – but he had learnt to control it. Undoubtedly, it did wonders to his social circle. With the fear of randomly transforming out of the way, his total number of friends had reached a grand total of two, Terezi included. Despite that, he was really grateful for her support and obstinacy, though he’d never admit it.  Without her, he’d probably would’ve just gone into isolation and wait for certain death to befall upon him.

Dramatics aside, the idea of morphing just one part of his body had occurred to him before. It could be handy to be able to whip out his snout to shoot a little fire for a smoke in the absence of a lighter, or a claw in the absence of say, a can-opener.

As he toyed with the thought further, the girl next to him sat up from her spot on the grass. She sniffed the air a little as the wind blew past. A smile formed on her face – no trespassers within a 5 mile radius, this spot had proven good for practicing Karkat’s transformations. After finding out about his secret, the blind lawyer-to-be had taken it into her stride to ensure that the quiet boy sitting at the back of history class would never need to feel alone again.

Sure, the journey had been long – breaking down the needlessly high walls, both physical and emotional, he put up around him, braving all his spontaneous rages which inevitably lead to the risk of the revelation of his “talent” to the whole town, and eventually appreciating his sweeter sides and becoming his best friend. Thankfully, with her advanced spatial awareness and excellent maneuvering of the two of them to obscure corners when necessary, no one had found out yet – with the exception of Sollux Captor, a male friend Karkat had taken a liking to recently. Of course, Karkat voluntarily telling someone about his secret had been a great milestone but sometimes Terezi missed being the only one who knew about his other form. Nevertheless, she was glad he was beginning to open up and take the risk to trust more people.

The spot they had chosen was a place they had stumbled upon after one of Karkat’s more violent outbursts. His rage had thrown the both of them a while’s away from their hometown and into a meadow with rather uneven terrain, allowing them to be hidden easily amongst the pseudo-hills of grass. It was a peaceful place, and they couldn’t be happier here than anywhere else.

here's some more stuff about the karezi dragon au thing if anyone wanted to read through and stuff

ok so the intro story thing I thought of so far was like karkat being in a family of knights and going into the woods at some point when he's like 13-15 to let off steam because bro kankri made him really angry and he just wants to punch something and then he comes across a weird cottage in the woods and just outside there's maybe like a pot of boiling water over a fire and strange flowers growing around but he's just mad and not thinking straight and he doesn't care about the occupant at this point so he like kicks over the pot and stomps on the flowers and just wrecks the whole setup until he's able to calm down and then it's like 'crap what did i do i have to try to set this right again' but then a lady comes out of the cottage and sees and is very angry because that was a spell/potion thing she'd been working on for months and now it's ruined so she's like 'oh inconsiderate uncaring little angry boy likes destroying things and rampaging well fine go take out your anger on things then' and then bam curses him

and then he gets turned into a dragon and she sends him to destroy his town and then after its done she releases him and he realises what he is and what he just did and now he can't turn back, the witch is gone, and he can't really try appealing to his family anymore since they're knights and he looks like a dragon they would just shoot first ask questions later, and so he runs away and lives by himself in the woods for a few years until he meets terezi

when you draw your dragons, are those spikey parts fur? I don't see many dragons with fur and I think it's pretty cool that you make furry dragons. If not, then what are they???

I do like drawing furry dragons sometimes but nah for this I had just intended them to be lazy spikes. They’re a lot finer because idk like usually dragon spikes are drawn more like they’re bony extensions of their spine, so there would be less of them but they would be really hard and strong and sharp, but for these I was imagining they would be more like the long scale plates of basilisk lizards and such which makes more of a unified spiky ridge. This is nice for these particular dragons because the bases of the spikes just attach to the skin so they’re flexible and actually somewhat soft to the touch (if you’ve ever stroked a spiked lizard you’ll understand what I’m talking about) so then for human terezi riding on dragon karkat’s back if she does it the right way she can sit there without being stabbed and then when they’re both dragons they can cuddle without impaling eachother sdfghjkkl

HERE YO U GO

At first you were…confused.  Everyone else ran away at first glance.  Who wouldn’t?  There you stood, with your wings spread to make yourself look bigger, with your sharp teeth bared, and with your tail snapping back and forth.  But there was one--one person who didn’t run.  She was the only member of the traveling merchants you intercepted for food who didn’t turn and run.  She definitely knew something was happening, she knew everyone had fled the horses and wagons and goods, but she didn’t know why.  Maybe she didn’t see you?  You were hard to miss, that couldn’t be it.  Still, you growled even louder to catch her attention.  You rose up on your hind legs, sharp red eyes piercing through the girl.  You even widen your wings some more to look intimidating.  No one ever stayed behind after seeing you.  You should’ve been relieved about it or something, but instead you try to scare her.  She noticed you, all right.  She stopped trying to calm down the frightened horses and pulled out a dagger.  Most merchants were armed to protect themselves from thieves and wild animals, it wasn’t uncommon.  But she wasn’t really looking in your direction.  You snarl and charge towards her, stopping a tails length away, and let out a loud roar.  You didn’t want to hurt her, you didn’t really want to hurt anyone, but you always defended yourself.  She was frightened, obviously.  Everyone was scared of you.  But she didn’t move.  Her mouth was closed, her knuckles were white from clutching, and her eyes—her eyes.  They weren’t a normal color they were…a foggy blue.  Your scowl dropped when you realized she didn’t run from the sight of you because she is blind.  You snort angrily and turn, jumping away, then crouched.  You clear your throat, willing yourself to become a bit more human to make it easier to speak.  “You should go,” you said.  Growled, really.  You don’t talk much. 

She was silent for a few moments, enough time for you to up your ‘human’ form.  You couldn’t get rid of your wings, tail or horns, but it made you look more human than before.  “Or what?  Where did that…beast go?” she asked, turning her head to listen closely.  So she thinks you’re a different being?  She was blind and you did go from roaring in her face to starting a conversation.

“…It’s gone,” you say, carefully pronouncing the words.  “I…scared it away.”  Maybe she’d believe it.  She did. 

At that time, you didn’t know this chance encounter with a girl who couldn’t see you would become anything more than what it was.  And now, you wonder what would have happened if she could see you as the monster you were when you first attacked the merchants.  You certainly wouldn’t been in the position you’re in now.

this is so dumb sdfghj I had a dream and I turned it into karezi

idk like in the dream I was cursed by a witch to turn into a dragon so she could use me to destroy towns/be her own personal attack dog monster kind of thing but I eventually escaped I guess. So I did it to karkat and after a few years working at it and getting a hang of manipulating the magic of his curse he's slowly able to learn how to transform himself more human, but he can't go human all the way yet like he's still got the wings and tail etc but he's working on it, but every time he feels in a rampage-y mood he reverts back full dragon.

And then he meets a blind girl who is the like first human to approach him and actually talk to him without running away and screaming because he looks like a monster. Y'know because she can't see him. So she's like his first friend since he'd been cursed and he tries to not let her touch him too much so she doesn't find out, but of course she finds out because I mean it's terezi. But then she's like HOLY CRAP I LOVE DRAGONS and he's like wait what seriously you're not afraid???? NO YOU ARE PERFECT TAKE ME FLYING
