im an indigenous filipino and there are several figures in our mythology from precolonial times (before the 1500s) which fit the title of 'nonbinary' as well as traditional roles outside the male/female binary, which only disappeared when the spanish colonized us so yea realtransalien can suck my dick lol

the reason why everyone think the concept of non-binary genders are a thing from the last half century is bc they existed in cultures that were almost eradicated by colonization and the reason why they’ve suddenly resurfaced is because the internet makes it much easier to spread information and also the idea of people not being cis has become much more accepted in general so more people are more likely to be openly exploring their gender identity
