If you're really having a dilemma over courtesan au, you could have it "geisha-esque" where wwx is more of a performer, plays music, entertains, jokes (he's really good at that and everyone is charmed) but he has never sold his body. And then the house matron thinks it's time to for wwx to really start earning, and opens bid for his first time...
