For the directors commentary ask game.... I'm specifically curious what inspired you to the Dragon's personalities in the Dragon fic?

The dragon's in Dragon Fic are a mishmash of a few things.

The first inspiration is Temeraire and His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novak. There's also a smattering of Saphira from the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. Essentially, dragons in those series are just as smart (if not smarter) than humans. In Temeraire, the dragon's can speak. The main character dragon, Temeraire, is very interested in academics. So this is a direct influence on Frostbite. Then in Eragon / Inheritance Cycle, Saphira can't speak, but the dragons can communicates via a mental link with their rider and only their rider. I partially stole the soul bonds from this, pairing them down so that they weren't a mind reading thing. Aquila is probably a decent foil for Saphira, in that they're both smart and immature dragons. But the main difference is Danny & Aquila have a cobbled together way to understand each other, where Saphira & Eragon were mind-melded.

Aquila, like Temeraire, is very possessive of people he considers 'his'. But the difference is Aquila isn't the jealous type -- every time he meets someone Danny loves, he expands his heart to love them too. If Danny loves, then Aquila loves them and will protect them fiercely. Also, harass them for scritches for those pesky parts he can't reach on his own.

With Ma'ri, I was thinking a lot about how different breeds would age & mature differently. Then I added the additional quirk that she's so tiny and stunted from the egg wasting disease (which will be explained in fic canon, i swear!). She's always going to small, and she's a bit developmentally challenged for it. It's why Danny has spoiled her rotten, because he worked so hard to save her egg. She's a bit like the smaller dragons in How to Train Your Dragon, but closer to the intelligence of the dragons in Temeraire.

Krek is also damaged by the egg wasting disease -- which is why his voice is odd. I was thinking a bit of Spike from Land Before Time with him! In my head, every time he's staring at Tim and Tim staring back at Krek, Krek does that lizard blink with one eye lagging. He's a good boy, he thinks he's being comforting but really Tim is stressed out. He's trying!
