Teach Me

So here I am with another FFXIV writing that I couldn’t help myself with. It is more Magnai and Ske’Dah cuz I can lol. So here ya go and do enjoy it!

"Brother? Do... Do you think you can teach me the ways of the lance? There are times when I look at my ax that I cannot wield it."

Ske'Dah looked up from sharpening off the tip of his lance, the dragon-like figure gleaming from being polished.

"Yes. I don't mind teaching you. By the way, back in Eorzea, we call an ax user a Marauder."

Magnai nodded and watched as his brother went over to his Chocobo. He lightly scattered the children there who were giggling with different colored paints and dying some of the lavender feathers with bright colors. The Xaela watched as he crouched to tell the children to find him a barrel for him to put vegetables in for Fizur. In a hurry, the children ran off.

Ske'Dah withdrew his first lance from the saddle that had been through many battles before being rightfully retired. Another is drawn that is similar, but less blood and more kempt.

"Catch!"

Magnai fumbled to catch the lance that was cleaner than blood staining the wood of the other. He looked up to see his brother observe his old lance, a hand going carefully up to the plain bronze metal tip.

"Seems like only yesterday I picked this up, and now here I am with abilities like that of a dragon. Heh. Funny how things come such a long way."

"I can only imagine-why are you shedding your coat off?"

Ske'Dah chuckled as he got rid of the given fur coat, one fit for a Khan. "As a Lancer, one must eliminate any loose clothing lest you are fine with getting snagged by dangling cloth. You want your attire to be fitted but not too tight that you cannot move."

Magnai thought on that but then nodded in understanding. He hesitated but then removed his own overcoat, which ended up being the only thing that covered his torso. The Dragoon couldn't help but laugh at the realization before reaching into the saddlebag of Fizur and pulling out a shirt for the other to wear.

With some help, the shirt was on. It didn't match with Magnai's everyday attire at all, but it was something to cover up with. Ready, he looks to his brother, who had pulled over some of the sturdy wooden targets to practice on.

"So! Out of curiosity from what you've seen from me, what is the ready stance," Ske'Dah then questioned. Magnai took a moment to remember, and then he shifted his feet so his left foot was forward and his right foot was back. His hold was almost there but was too close due to his familiarity with an ax. The elder Au'Ra chuckled and went over to nudge his brother's feet to a wider stance. Ske’Dah himself pulled his lance from his back and got into the same pose. Magnai took a moment to stare before straightening up and holding the lance given to his side.

“How did you become a lancer, brother?”

“An old friend taught me. But he was training to become a sort of protege.”

“And he taught you?”

The Khan nodded with a smile, then motioned with a hand for his brother to get back into ready stance. The Sun did as instructed, and their day carried forth with training. By its end, Magnai was panting and flopped onto the ground. Ske’Dah, on the other hand, wasn’t even breaking a sweat. He stuck the butt end of the lance into the ground as a smile graced his face while leaning on it.

“How… How are you not exhausted!?”

“Because I trained as a lancer for years! But what you probably won’t learn is this!”

Magnai was confused, but he yelped when his brother suddenly launched himself into the air and landed on top of the wall. Ske’Dah didn’t miss and landed with precision. He turned around with lance balanced in his hand despite the wind. He cracked up at the baffled look on The Sun’s face.

“HOW DID YOU DO THAT!!”

“Until the day you prove yourself as a formidable lancer, I will show you the ways of the Dragoon. But for now, practice, train, lay your lance in others' hands for the good of the world. But don’t worry, brother. I will teach you more for you to better yourself.”

Magnai nodded quickly as he stood up with his lance in hand, a broad grin on his face at the promise his brother presented. Ske’Dah jumped down and broke his fall with the help of his lance before placing it back on the small holster on his back. The two spent the rest of the day on the basics being taught. Some of the residents that are already lancers hung around to listen or join themselves—the Khan training with his people.

The might of Ishgard, the Knights Dragoon have been invited to test their mettle against Gyr Abania’s finest: The Fists of Rhalgr.

A tourney of grand proportions is on the horizon, come the second sun of the Sixth Umbral moon. A series of one on one bouts will occur before Ivon’s Perseverance, The Schism, in the Fringes of Gyr Abania.

  A Resounding Victory For Ishgard!

For bells on end,

did the two orders struggle for the right to call themselves the greater on that day. Lances were shaken, bones were rattled, but in the end, steel proved stronger than flesh.

FINAL STANDINGS:

Hilda Alarias (Victor) vs.  Kodaro Ba’rococo

Oliver Delants (Victor) vs. Florihilda Valerian

Livicette Rillemont (Victor) vs. Rana Kotsu

The three bouts, 

each victory narrowly won, belonged to the Knights Dragoon without question.

“For Ishgard. Of the Sky, From the Sky, For the Sky!” - Dame Hestia De Bayle, congratulating her fellows post-tourney. 

However, 

pride for their accomplishments did not spill over into arrogance, wholly expected by so noble an opponent as a Dragoon. With each victory they achieved, the Knights had naught to offer but encouragement and even hints of surprise at the martial might of the Fists. 

“Be proud. This may not have been a victory, but there is no doubt that Ala Mhigo’s ferocity is not something to weather lightly.” - Livicette Rillemont, The Violet Wyvern, offering hand to her opponent.

And so, 

after proper congratulations had been offered, and ceremony for the victors had concluded, the six combatants stood shoulder to shoulder, as both equal and rival. Dragoons, the apex which lay just frustratingly out of reach and Fist, their harrying hounds, only yalms away from closing the gap.

“Do not think us of Ala Mhigo will be so blithe in this lesson, Ishgard! Chart a careful course throughout your Sky, lest we overtake and strike you down as a bolt of levin!” - Rhuli’a Kanjun’s promise to not let his sit easy on this loss, nor let the Knights Dragoon rest comfortably on their laurels.

A huge, OOC thank you to everyone who participated and attended! Hope everyone had fun and you can count on CC-RP to host something similar in the coming months!
