Sabotenders and engagement rings
“ Master Checheq, we’ve a customer!”
Kiiko’s voice called out from the front of the shop, rousing the master jeweler from his notes and stacks of paperwork regarding the finances of the shop needed for his meeting with the Syndicate. Not a formal member of such but he had some dealings with them, Qara needed to square his accounts with Fyrgeiss for the last shipment of quality ore. His shop not being rather large but one of some renown, the owner of The Auri’s Hoard only ordered the highest quality of ores from across Eorzea’s expanse. Pulling himself away from his desk, his clothes well made and modestly adorned with jewels of his own cut, Qara slid open the partition that lead him toward the business portion of his shop.
“ Be please my friends”, he began saying with a bow, “ And welcome to the Auri’s Hoard; where even the smallest of our jewels would garner the desire of even the most powerful of Dragons. I am Qara Checheq, how may I assist you in your needs?” The Au Ra smiled towards the patron as he stepped closer, listening toward their idea and desires for a ring needed for an engagement ring. The design itself seemed easy to make even if the materials they wished to have used weren’t all completely conventional. “ I wish to have a cactuar’s spikes woven into the design, namely around the center most jewel as if to cradle it. Can this be done?”
Crooking his index finger and resting it gently against the scales of his chin, Qara thought contemplatively about such a job. “ That is a rather unique design to be sure, but might I suggest the Sabo, or even the Giga, tender’s quills instead? They are of sturdier materials while having some pliability in their forms, meaning the cradle in question would have less chance of chipping and releasing the gem.” With a nod in agreement, the patron smiled widely as Qara turned toward his second apprentice, Sasharaan: “ Sash, if you would be pleased, venture toward the market and see if Wyvglyf has any tender quills in stock. If that discourse isn’t viable, place a job with the Levemete master, offering five thousand gil for five of them..” The miqo’te woman bowed with a smile toward Qara before rushing from the store with haste.
“ Now, about payment; the design is simple but for the materials and the gems, also with my craftsmanship; this will cost at least fifty thousand. Is this agreeable, m’lord?” With an emphatic nod of his head, the patron gave half up front as per custom before taking his writ of purchase.” Should take no longer than a week or two, depending if the vendor has the quills available. I will send one of my apprentices to fetch you once the order is complete. Be pleased and thank you for your patronage.” With a deep bow, and a bit of a flourish of his hand, Qara offered a smile as the patron left before turning to look at Kiiko.
“ Mind the shop while I prepare for the order; there’s a new set of deepgold earrings in the back, place them on display at a ten percent discount if you’d be so kind, Kiiko.” The female Au Ra nodded before striding into the backroom, leaving Qara to retreat into his workshop to prepare for his custom order. Reaching over toward a large device in the corner, one of his scaled digits pressed against a button or two, bringing forth the sound of stringed instruments from his homeland.
With an inhale and a swirl, Qara pulled on his gloves and work belt, lighting the forge to begin the long task of crafting the one of a kind ring.
