Joshua shrugs with sadness. Since he learned what Anabella has done since Phoenix Gate, he just doesn't know what to think anymore. She really did horrible things. And yet... he remembers the way she has always comforted him, always supported him. Is it his fault if she became this way ? If she hadn't thought him dead after Phoenix Gate, would she have done these things ? If he had been stronger back then, maybe all of this could have been avoided. And it's something he really can't stop thinking about.

He looks at Aranea for a short moment before he looks away again. She will judge him if he tells her he can't hate Anabella, right ? And maybe he would deserve it. "I know, but... I wish I could understand what happened. You did not know her, Aranea. She was unfair sometimes, especially with my brother... But she was not this way. Canonically, Aulea died while Noctis was still an infant. My personal headcanon is that she died just shy of his second birthday due to post-childbirth complications with pre-eclampsia. And Regis, himself, didn't find out from the Kings of Eld about what was to be Noctis' fate until Noctis was six years old, so no. Aulea wouldn't have known what was going to happen. Whether she gains some kind of cosmic knowledge about it after death is up in the air (which is honestly a stretch, considering the Kings of Eld are trapped in the Ring of Lucii so she wouldn't have found out from them; Bahamut maybe?), but even then she wouldn't have been able to do anything but watch it happen.

That being said, in any verse where she survives, Aulea would have found out around the same time as Regis. Either because he told her directly after finding out from the former kings himself or because Aulea, being his childhood friend and therefore perceptive as fuck, would have probably realised something was wrong/he was hiding something and beat coerced it out of him.

In either case, she's absolutely devastated.
