I have a (stupid?) question about Kibbe typing if you don't mind. Does it matter whether the person is male of female? Like if one is typed could they stilluse those guidelines for clothes that aren't "meant" for their sex? This doesn't make any sense. Point is, I have a female body and I like wearing men's clothes, would the guidelines /type be the same or would it change? Does that make sense? If this has been answered already, I apologize. Thanks!
on pure yin and yang in kibbe’s system + examples
the ideas of lines are the same, the thing is either is tailored differently in most cases since the prêt-à-porter industry assumes everyone is a classic (=average of their gender). so that’s where you have to adapt kibbe a little bit. BUT: there is a loophole for a couple types which is where it gets interesting.
female dramatics and most flamboyant or pure naturals can customize menswear. for dramatics it’s even recommended, see above how well that works. vice versa, male theatrical romantics or pure romantics can borrow elements from womenswear with equal ease. in fact, they look their best and most ethereal in it and usually become notorious.
to show you the principle: it’s weird the other way around. male romantic types are killed by menswear, especially dramatic lines. where they normally look so sweet and attractive, the whole outfit is suddenly hard on the eye and makes the face unusually severe contrary to how you know them. the lines are way too oversized.
same thing: womenswear on female dramatics? very strange clash of geometry. we look like giant birds in ruffles. because: curve, thin material, no weight to the fabric = too yin in contrast to the bone structure.
in the meantime: pure gamines hit the jackpot 😂 you can draw from either side and mix it up to your liking. silk and leather pants kind of stylings, nobody will even notice that you created a hybrid outfit since you carry opposites the best in the kibbe system. women and menswear melts into one thing on pure gamines.
classics and all other subtypes usually need to go in only one direction. in those cases, it does matter imo. and, it won’t fit you anyway: a female romantic type couldn’t squeeze into a long streamlined suit that a dramatic wears without effort. it’s too uncomfortable.
that’s also how many yin-dominant types think they’re overweight, born to be objectified or shamed, or hide themselves entirely (it’s currently happening with billie eilish). the opposite could be the case, the clothing line setup just is the opposite of your outline. only soft classic, soft natural, and finally their own lines tend to fit romantics properly in the first place:
imo that’s the blessing of the type, you can type yourself by elimination principle the fastest. the more pure yin or yang you have in your type, the faster you know whether menswear or womenswear does the trick. gamines and classics take longer to type themselves exactly because of that idea. classics are the golden middle and gamines can use either at random.
