If the crystal gems ever get their memories back, would they hate spinel for what she did to Steven? And would Diamond Steven defend her or just let her be insulted and leave or something?

I WAS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO ASK THIS 

because that’s a whole thing i’m planning for the future. and to answer your question: yes

i’m gonna skip some spoiler territory with my current fic and skip to corrupted spinel, hope u don’t mind!

because corrupted spinel is treated more softly by steven, he doesn’t tell her a lot of things. now to him, she’s just a scared and lonely little beast. he was there when she was going through that very painful transformation, and she was utterly terrified. he knows that her corruption was his fault, and to him it’s some sick irony. both cases were accidents, she didn’t know she would kill him, and he didn’t know she would become corrupted. 

she was scared, and she ran away from him to hide deep in some woodlands. as time went on, her mind slowly degrades and she doesn’t remember anything, not what she did, why she was like this, all she knew was that everything hurt and she was afraid. 

he finds her and calms her down, there’s a vague feeling that she knows him, and she’s attached to him.

the path from full blown beast to bunny spinel is still being figured out, because i still want her memories to not be intact. 

but he insists on keeping her, because he knows she wouldn’t survive anywhere else, she’s still very dependent on him. plus, he can’t just leave his little pet behind to rot

the other gems aren’t so happy at first, but amethyst and garnet are the one’s to warm up to her first, garnet takes longer than amethyst. they all still love steven, and amethyst wants to support him and trust his intuition, so she basically becomes spinel’s babysitter when steven is busy. spinel also warms up to amethyst because they spend the most time together (aside from steven), and actually grows to enjoy her company. amethyst can’t really hate spinel, seeing how she is and how she acts, but she pities her, and wonders if steven really can’t bring her back to normal or he keeps her like that for his own needs. 

garnet, while a bit apprehensive, has somewhat forgiven her, if only a little. most of it is from knowing how she was treated by steven before the corruption, she thinks that spinel has gotten more than enough punishment for what she’s done, not to say garnet thinks the so-called “punishment” is that justified, because of how much pain she’s gone through.

pearl is still in denial that the old steven is gone, she thinks that spinel’s presence is unhealthy for steven, seeing how she clings to him whenever he’s present. she’s the reason steven is so different now, and she resents spinel for it. she knows she doesn’t remember, so she can’t be scrutinized for something she’s unaware of, but pearl still wants her gone, somewhere far away from steven.

pearl and steven often get into very loud arguments about whether spinel can stay or not, and they usually end with steven or pearl storming off, or spinel unfortunately hearing and wondering what she did wrong, leaving steven to calm her down and demand pearl that she leave. 

spinel doesn’t even like it there, she always feel like she’s stepping on thin ice, but she wants to be with steven more, so she just clings to him for comfort.
