Hi everyone!
We are so excited by the number of people that have expressed interest and enthusiasm about this fest, and can’t wait to see your works come to life. However, there are a couple of things that we feel we need to address/remind people of.
This fest is specifically designed to uplift disabled voices and represent disabilities in a realistic but positive light.
We understand that everyone’s experience of disability is different, and we want to represent that as much as possible. However, we strongly feel that disability is not something to be romanticised, and that while life with a disability is definitely not all “sunshine and rainbows” the voices of disabled people need to be uplifted and respected, regardless of the overall tone of the fic or art.
We want to encourage people to participate regardless of their experiences – or lack thereof – with disability, but we do reserve the right to remove any prompts that we feel do not fit with the aims of this fest. This is not a reflection on whether your prompt is “good” or “bad” but whether or not we feel they fit the specific tone we are hoping to create.
Please feel free to reach out through asks or messages if you are unsure, however a good rule of thumb is to take a fact about you – whether it’s a disability or simply the colour of your hair – and put it into your prompt. If you would feel good about someone else writing that about that characteristic of yours, 9/10 you should be fine 😊
Thanks again for all of your support, we have truly been blown away.
