Vampire Draw Days 2018: The First Half
I received a total of ten prompts for the Vampire Draw Days thing, which is a pretty good number all things considered. Here’s the first five, with the rest to follow tomorrow. Probably.
From the animals chosen, I knew this vampire would have to be very leggy, because toads and hares have long-ass hindlegs (it helps for jumping). The addition of long gloves made me want to put them in formal wear, and then that made me think of how rabbits are associated with magicians, and so we have a vampire who’s a bit of a stage magician herself - albeit one with some actual supernatural powers behind her tricks. Like any good magician, she’s great at misdirection, which fits with her “bargaining” personality - she’s a fast talker and a bit of a con woman, excelling at talking her way out of problems and into opportunities.
Animals: Chameleon, Poison Dart Frog, Hoatzin
Personality: Afraid of Most Things
Clothing: A big, wide-brimmed hat
Obviously it’s not something that would come up in a black and white sketch, but I figure this guy’s hair and clothing is very colorful EXCEPT for the big hat and body-obscuring trenchcoat, which are probably black or brown (and even the coat has some bright paint spots on it). A more modern vampire, this guy probably escaped from a Spooks Organization laboratory (which would explain the very odd mix of animals in his shapeshifter repertoire), and spends most of his undead life looking over his shoulder for the men in black to reclaim him again.
Animals: Gecko, Chameleon, Adder
Clothing: A fancy ball gown
A wealthy vampiress who, in life, had a bit of a reptile collecting habit, this vamp had a great deal of resources at her disposal to deal with her newfound condition, and has found plenty of non-lethal ways to satisfy her newfound bloodthirst without hurting people. The result is a sweet but somewhat naive vampire, one that doesn’t understand why this whole creature of the night thing is so difficult for most people to deal with. Of course, part of that sheltered worldview comes from her family insisting on keeping her confined - err, that is, protected within their estate. Though she understands their concerns, she longs to see the world, and to figure out just how versatile her newfound vampiric powers are.
Animals: Bat, Snake, Dragon
Personality: Cunning and Prideful
Clothing: Tattered cloak and a plague doctor’s mask
A vampire from the Lost Epoch, i.e. the Age of Magic, this grim fellow traveled the earth as a wandering healer when he was alive. One disease proved too much for even his expertise, and this of course is how he gained his current affliction. He still tries to work as a medicine man, but few people are willing to trust a creature of the night, and after enough angry mobs he’s been forced to become something of a warrior. To his frustration, a lot more people are willing to accept his help in battle than they are to accept his healing, but at least his fighting prowess gets the respect it deserves.
Animals: Coyote, Barn Owl, Opossum
Sired in the modern age, this vampire’s knowledge of vampirism has been tainted by pop culture. Of course, outside of a few romance novels and children’s books, vampires in pop culture don’t really have great lives - you’re shunned from society and condemned to prey upon your fellow human beings, which really doesn’t sit well with this poor kid. The young vampire has taken to a life of vagrancy, feeding off of whatever wildlife they can find while making sure they never stay in one place long enough for people to discover them.
