Avery! I loved your sermon yesterday! It was a very insightful comparison you drew, which highlighted a lot relevant to today. I especially thought it was interesting to think about how Jacob's situation and struggles as the last-born, which he failed to fix as a structural inequality in his family, then affected Joseph's relationship with his brothers when he was perceived as favoured. It mirrors how Hamilton's fatal personality flaw was his pride in his legacy, which not only caused his (cont)

(cont) own death, but due to his parenting skills, it caused the death of Phillip, who also died in a duel to defend the pride of his father and family name. I know that Hamilton's side is more about America's structural inequalities than Hamilton's personal pride, but I thought it was another parallel in these stories. Very well done!

For clarification to anon, I think some of the confusion about the age thing is that in Japan (and I think in the US as well), you're sorted into school grade based on how your birthday falls into the school year, whereas in some other countries like Canada, it's based on calendar year. Being Canadian, I went to school with kids born in 1994, but if I was in the US, it would've been Sept 94-Aug 95 or whatever, or in Japan, my class would be born April 94-March 95, if im not mistaken

it's been such a shock, but one thing i keep remembering is that the subtitle of the epilogues are "Tales of Dubious Authenticity" and they're listed as an entirely different story than Homestuck on the website, like Problem Sleuth and Bard Quest. That, combined with the outside-of-canon ao3 format serves to reinforce that, while this is something that is passed to us from Hussie, it's part of Homestuck canon, in the same way that the paradox space comics were not canon.

because yeah they go back and tie into lose ends in the comic, but i’ve read homestuck over 4 times and the tonal shift is too jarring to accept as canon, so I’m willing to take all the flags hussie gave us that this is not part of Canon

oh, that totally slipped my mind, but “dubious authenticity” is definitely the Correct way to describe it

when you list it out like that, yeah, all signs do point to the epilogues being Not The Same Homestuck I’ve Loved Over The Years, which is a relief

i still cant quite fully shake my disappointment yet, but maybe, if we get any more epilogues, they cant possibly be as emotionally traumatizing as this, and maybe in comparison i’ll appreciate whatever else comes more

regardless of canonicality, it still kinda sucks that this is still a path that Hussie /chose/ for his characters, when he coukd’ve chosen other ones that could’ve been interesting without being Awful

The anon wondering about Dirk implying to Jane that she was related to Jake; I believe they're thinking of Dirk's explanation of the future to Jake, wherein he explains the Condesce's past and Grandma English and Dirk hints to Jake about connecting his grandma's brother who inherited the company to being Poppop Crocker, but Jake is simply too dense. No biological relation, only adopted. (page 6758)

Building on the Pesterchum handle ask, I like Homestuck because if you take everyone's handle initials and put them in a table sorting GCAT on both axes for first and second letters, you arrive at a table where the humans occupy the 4 corners (Sburb logo), and the trolls fill the other 12 spots (shape of the Sgrub logo).

For the ask about alpha Dave's money, remember the rules of alchemy. The game is designed so that the only stuff you can make pre-entry is really basic stuff like cubes and what's already in your Phernalia Registry. Most stuff requires non-build grist, like shale, and that requires imps, and that requires entering. Rose theorized this was to prevent someone from starting the game and alchemizing infinite stuff without ever opening your Extruder and potentially causally invoking a meteor (1/2)

(2/2) If you could alchemize stuff without needing non-build grist, you'd be set forever. Fortunately, SBaHJ stuff alchemizes at a negative cost of artifact grist (this and zillium are the only grists seen like this), so you could do it without entering the game. Alpha Earth is seen covered in artifacty Lady Liberties bc Dave made so many to reap the massive grist spoils of their negative costs, and sold the grist off for money to finance his movies.

To the bullied anon: I've been exactly in your shoes. I spent several years in high school with realization that I had none nor had I ever had any truly close friends, and was completely isolated from having anyone to talk to about anything person, which is especially hard when you're going through the confusing time of realizing your sexuality might not be what you thought it was. I was ignored and/or bullied by the people I'd thought were my friends, and I frequently cried myself to sleep (1/2

Nevertheless, I would pray constantly about what was going on. Why would God let this happen? Why was this so hard? Why couldn't he send just one person to help me out. And it took a few years for things to get better and it was really hard and gruelling in the process, tbh, but it was also the biggest spiritual growth spurt I'd ever had. I had no choice, no one to turn to, but to constantly be before the throne asking God what to do, and I grew closer to Him during that time than ever.
