#dread questions

So I'm a half dreadie, I have been naturally dreading the bottom half of my hair for about 4ish -5 months. I've started to work with palm rolling because my dreads are so uneven and it's been working some, I am reluctant to use any wax which Im so sad because I feel like it will help with the unraveling, are there any substitutes that work just as well as waxing would ? Also my dread roots are somewhat uneven and nappy, which is nothing but unappealing, is this normal; will it fix on its own ?or

My best advice to you is to learn how to use a crochet hook. It will tighten them up and stop any unraveling. There are lots of tutorials on youtube. 

Wax will only help temporarily, I definitely don’t recommend it.

Using a crochet hook will tighten up and even out your roots too. Your roots sound normal. Dreads are always growing and changing and yours are still babies. As they mature they will level out and they won’t be as crazy. Good luck <3

I'm starting to dread my hair soon. I was wondering what products/brands you use, and how often you use them?

I don’t use any dread products. Wax will look alright at first but gunk up the inside of your dreads. I use a crochet hook for maintenance, natural shampoo or dr. bronners, and occasionally essential oils to smell nice :)

Hi, I have a question. So i'm getting dreads soon, but I have really curly hair. Am I going to have any problems?

curly hair works great for dreads. the only problem that I find in people with curly hair is they’re usually very tender-headed. i’ve had a lot of curly hair folks explain to me that they don’t brush their hair very often or do too much maintenance (especially guys) so thats probably why their scalps are usually sensitive. i don’t find dreads to be painful at all, but some people do.

Hey I love ur blog :D I had a quick question. My babies and 3weeks now and I used the twist and rip method and some of them still look like little braids will that look go away when they mature more?

yep, that look should go away with time. your hair will get a little looser and you’ll be good to go :)

Hey sorry totally dumb question but can you give me instructions or link me to a website that explains how to dreadlock your hair? Thank you I'd really appreciate it ♡♥

not dumb at all! i’ll try my best at explaining. the technique i use is called rip & twist. 

basically you start off with a section of hair, about the size you’d like your dread to be. part this section in two, so you have two pieces in both your hands. now put them back together and, working with the same hair, pull two different sections apart.when you repeat this motion, hair will start to gather at the root and knot up. basically you repeat this the entire time until you have a dread. 

this is surprisingly hard to explain; it’s actually very simple! maybe i’ll make a tutorial. lemme know if anyone else is interested!

I've got straight pretty much asian hair, would it be possible for me to get dreads and maintain them?

yep, definitely possible. i’ve done dreads on all hair types, and even fine thin hair can maintain. another thing to consider is once your dreads have matured there’s also the possibility of adding real or synthetic hair (from sallys or general beauty stores) to thicken the dreads - as long as its not too much added weight on your scalp.

so the 5 dreads I put in are doing well, not sure as to keep the rubber bands in or not, i took them out yesterday before work did a little more backcombing to make some better, first time i slept with them in with out the rubber bands - I've obviously been showering I can go a day without washing my hair, but when I do -  tie the dreads back and don't allow shampoo or conditioner to get in them so they'll keep locking, if anyone has any suggestions let me know.. I'm not trying to do my full head so its difficult. I heard, dread dust? I think my friend told me and I've heard from a few people is really good you can wash your hair with it. I think I'm gonna put the rubber bands back in a few, some are locking up real nice , they all are there's just some soft spots still my hairs for sure wanting to kill me haha, I also need a lil bit smaller crochet hook.. Ive been seeing different numbers, does anyone have a suggestion? ? mines… shit I don't even remember what I had my mom get me, it's small but not small enough I feel it doing the job but not fully at all. things are just kinda forming naturally at the moment, like I said any suggestions let me know ! 

the weekend - I smiled a lot this weekend. a lot a lot alot. and It's really nice to smile I had a super rough patch but beautiful things came out of it.

horrible news yesterday though, a good friend of mine passed away and it sucks because I'm not going to be able to go to the wake because of this new job - doesn't really seem humane to be gone from work for an hour or two at night or just have other people working there helping out so you could go say goodbye to your friend, Ill make it to the church and hopefully a wake.
