nightcall [ao3]
henry devlin/owen underhill, hallucinations, telepathy, hurt/comfort, owen is dead and henry dreams of him || 5.9k words
The presence was preferable to the nightmares, even as it refused to shake the pesky habit of manifesting itself far too close. Henry had chalked up that first time—the steady breaths against the back of his neck, the proximity, the warmth—to confusion and surprise. The excuse became flimsy by the third time. Frankly laughable by the tenth. Once or twice the hallucination did show up sitting at the foot of his bed or leaned against the doorway at least, but most of the time it just wouldn’t keep the distance; coming into being under the covers with him, holding him close, solid and impossibly real. Sometimes, Henry even managed to work up enough concern to protest. It felt about as honest as lying to Jonesy about not missing being normal; still, he felt that he had to try. Owen, buddy. Personal space. I’m dead. Instantaneous. Perfectly deadpan. Henry almost laughed. Yeah, I don’t want a dead guy in my bed.
hello! sorry I'm awkward, but I just wanted to say that I read Dreamcatcher after watching the movie and it was like. the movie didn't really make sense until I'd read it. reading the book was like, holy shit Beaver has a PERSONALITY. and an ex-wife?? and he's actually good at talking to people. and his dynamic with Jonesy is so precious. the movie dropped the ball on him so hard! -- not at all Jason Lee's fault, he did amazing with what they gave him. (but casting a 6'1" actor to play a character who is 5'6" in the book was, um, A Choice someone made!)
as an aside if there are any scenes of the movie you'd like me to gif let me know! c:
First of all, thank you for reaching out. I felt so lonely about Dreamcatcher.
I've been watching the film since it came out. I really liked it but I used to never read the credits pre and post film. Couple of years back I finally found out that it was an adaptation so I researched the book. There were so many bad reviews that it put me off, not gonna lie. So I finally decided to give it a shot this month and MY GOD!! Like you said, reading the book really made the film make sense. I liked the boys in the film, sure, they had a tight friendship and all that, but the book?? I love them so much from the book. I miss Beaver and Pete so much it's insane. They both deserved so much better. Beaver was so fucking sweet and funny and charming and a cinnamon roll. I missed them so much that after reading it on ebook I had to buy a physical copy.
Sorry for the small rant.
And about the gifs, I would honestly receive anything with open arms. I feel sad that the movie (and especially the book) have so much hate just because of the shit-weasels. I rewatched the film after reading the book and I pouted like a bloody child when the four of them are having dinner around the table, laughing, enjoying their company and teasing each other with affection. I had always enjoyed the easygoing energy of that scene in the movie as a prelude to what's to come, but I never felt some kind of way about it. After reading the book and having properly met the boys? God, it hurt.
Sorry again, I could keep going on rants about them and the book and the film and the ✨choices✨.
