DREAMJELLY COOKIE AGERE ART!!!🍪🌟🎀🌀
My review on Cookie Run Ovenbreak's 9th Anniversary Update
I don't normally do this but since I love this update so much, that i'm even choosing this over Kingdom's update (which says a lot), I want to review this update and tell my opinion on the pros and cons.
Before I begin though, spoilers for the new update. I don't talk about the story a lot but I do talk about the mini stories and if you want to experience them on your own then don't read this.
Positives:
This update's whole theme is about dreams and I think the concept is handled well with the released Cookies, locations, story going back to different locations and so much more, it's a way to keep me invested.
As per usual, the story is top tier. I'm debating if either this story or the recent Cookie Detective is my second favorite story (A Dreamlike Winter Wonder will always be my favorite) but this goes to show how invested I was in the story.
Milky Way was a fantastic release to the game and goes to show why adding in Kingdom Cookies was a fantastic choice cause even if hate Kingdom for whatever reason, Ovenbreak's adaptation is always special and welcome to me. I can't wait for the next Kingdom Cookies to be released.
Dreamjelly was very cute and I love the premise where Dreamjelly is a Bear Jelly focused gameplay and is kind of based on us as that's our forgotten friend. This is one of my favorite Cookies released this year and I don't think they can replicate that feeling again.
Dreamweaver because that's my favorite Cookie, I know people are so sick of seeing content made for this Cookie but I have a couple of things to say regarding that. One, that's not criticism as that's just people being jealous that this Cookie got content and nothing more. You're not talking about the Cookie, you're talking about the external factors that aren't even related to the character and i'm sick of it. If you want to talk about your opinion on a character, actually talk about the character and the story, stop talking about the unnecessary bullshit. And second, actually looking at the content we got, I think is amazing. While I understand why people complain about a new Legendary pet since those things are not easy to build (I would know since building Longan and Lychee's pets took so much resources and took so long and yet, i'm not even done with Lychee), I still think the pet itself has a cute concept and it's a buff so I won't be too upset over it. The costume is great, genuinely my favorite one out of the ones we've gotten so far, the story featuring Dreamweaver is amazing and I especially love the bonus mini story we got featuring Dreamweaver. As someone who thinks Dreamweaver is my favorite Cookie ever, this makes me so happy.
The epilogue is great, it fixed one of my criticisms with the updates where it feels like you have to build a Cookie for one half of an update and then after that, the Cookie is useless. Like why? I know people will say that they could get used in future Metas but one, those are very inconsistent as sometimes they will be used but other times they won't and two, if they're not used in other Metas then you essentially built the Cookie for a half of an update and then will never use them again if you care for the Meta. This is something that literally no other game does as games like Kingdom give you the ability to beat levels with the weaker Cookies as some are good in PvE while others are good in PvP, Ovenbreak literally has certain requirements in the main story to get the full rewards so i'm so glad that this Epilogue basically fixes that and I hope this is the normal moving forward.
Speaking of, i'm so glad that in this update, despite the rank events ending, you can still replay the previous maps to get the rewards and keep up with the story. Previously, you just couldn't, you either play it during the limited time or don't ever. I don't know why it took this long to make both parts of the events accessible for the whole duration of the update but better late than never.
The mini-map is great, I loved exploring the whole location and being able to interact with the characters adds to the immersion. I know it's just the Hall of Legends but it's still a positive and this is yet again, something I hope will be a norm moving forward. Only nitpick is that I wish we can change Gingerbrave into whoever we want but that's very minor.
The mini-stories added were fantastic, especially the Dreamweaver one. I was especially excited to see the game actually acknowledge Dreamweaver missing Peppernut and I jumped for joy which is something I never do, I can't wait to see how this affects the next story. The other mini-stories are also good as I love how they characterized literally every Cookie that got one. Despite me not seeing their original stories, I felt like I understood how they're characterized and that's a good thing.
The costumes are also fantastic, not only do they look good but we even get most of them for free and yes, this includes the costume's pet which is normally unavailable for whatever reason. I love that, I hope Devsisters please do more of this as costume pets should not be locked behind a paywall.
The gacha has great rewards, nothing more to say about this.
I liked seeing more of our MyCookie appearing in stories, I find it unique to see how we're characterized and I would like to see where this goes.
Negatives:
I mentioned a lot of positives and I do stand by that, but there are a couple of negatives that I want to mention.
Milky Way's skill is weirdly inconsistent, why is it that she can't destroy obstacles yet when she has her Magic Candy and she calls for the train twice, those destroy obstacles. It's so weird and I don't like it
Correct me if i'm wrong but the spotlight treasure doesn't work on Dreamjelly's created Bear Jellies during their skill. Why? Genuinely why does it do that?
While I am glad they made most costumes very easy to get, Milky Way and Dreamjelly still have the same system in place where you pull for them in the costume gacha and their pet is locked behind a paywall. Why can't they make the newly released featured Cookies get the respect they deserve? I wish this practice would stop because it's so irritating to see this keep constantly happening.
I love the mini stories and the costumes, but S'more weirdly has no costume and that's weird because the update clearly puts focus on him as the representative of the 7th Anniversary, he has a map and a mini-story. So why doesn't he have a costume? And on that note, why does Everything Pie get the costume instead? The 8th Anniversary already has representation, she's not featured in any stories and doesn't even have a mini-story, she has no content yet she gets the costume over S'more? I don't like it, give my calm boy a costume.
Some of the missions to get pulls for the costume are inconsistent and some are too hard to get. Like part of the requirements is to get L Rank in the Champion League Arenas, that's impossible for some players and what's even worse is that some of these missions are so grind heavy, like why do we need so much Guild S Ranks to get little tokens? Same with the daily missions, why ask me to play 1 Trillion Challenge when I already used my ticket? Like i'm glad that the update has very easy access to rewards but this is still stupid.
Speaking of the 1 Trillion Challenge, it got some changes and no one likes it since it makes it harder. And I agree, plus it's still hard to get tickets to play the event, I don't know why is it so hard to actually complete the whole thing, please change it back to the old version.
The shop kinda sucks, yes the costume are great and there are a couple of other things that is great like an 11 pull Treasure Ticket but other than that, there's nothing to buy. Why is it so empty?
While I like the 8th Dream returning, I don't think it's a good gamemode since while I like the concept, it's still a bit too hard to get all the nightmares. It's inconsistent to me as you could get a streak of nightmares but also a streak of dreams.
But overall, this update is amazing, easily one of the best Ovenbreak updates over. I am so glad to have played it and I can't wait to see what the next one will do. I hope that we especially see more of whoever the mystery Cookie is, some people think it's a new Cookie while people like me think it's Peppernut. Either way, i'm excited, i'm happy and this update made me play this over Kingdom's update. For that, i'll give this update a 9/10, if you agree or disagree with me then let me know in the comments and do let me know if you want to see more reviews from me.
