hi! first off your blog is incredible and has helped me a lot. i just wanted to ask if one of you or any other butches have tips on looking... tougher i guess? i feel like right now i kinda look like a twink, lmao. but, to anyone who wants to fuck with me, i wanna look like someone you can't fuck with, and to anyone who wants to be friends with me, i wanna look like a cool person to be friends with. i've considered piercings and an army jacket, but i don't think that'd cut it. any other ideas?

piercings (industrial, bridge, and eyebrow piercings in particular, imo) and an army jacket are def good ideas!! you could also do a leather jacket, denim jacket with patches, big boots (combat boots, work boots, doc martens, whatever your style is), leather belts with a big buckle, buzzed hair… look at other butches that you think look cool and tough for inspiration!!

also if you are able, working out and gaining muscle or taking some form of martial arts will definitely help you feel stronger and more able to protect people! the goal def doesn’t have to be to look all lean and ripped like a bodybuilder - just knowing that you have more strength can really help boost your confidence. and confidence is really the most important thing in order to have a cool tough vibe, even more than aesthetic choices!! your style can give you a “don’t fuck with me” look at first glance but if you don’t have the attitude to back it up, it won’t be convincing. you don’t want to have like, an overall mean attitude, but confidence will let you appear cool and friendly to the people you like and intimidating to the people you don’t like!

As a petite butch it’s really hard to find clothes that I like which actually fit me I always like a lot of stuff from the men’s section but they’re always way too large on me and never have a smaller size What should I do?

since i’m pretty tall and usually fit men’s clothes, i’m going to open this up to followers! anyone have advice?

as a trans woman who is a butch, would you or anyone else have tips fashion-wise on like... signaling to other lesbians that I'm a butch and not a guy? I kinda feel like from my position it's a tad more difficult but I have trouble thinking of anything other than something SUPER obvious like wearing a shirt that says "butch" on it or something lmao (which is something I would probably do tbh)

i mean, a shirt that says “butch” on it is never a bad fashion choice. and it does get the point across. but i understand perhaps it’s not your first choice. i’m going to say a few things i can think of, but i’m neither trans nor all that creative when it comes to flagging so it’d be neat if followers could weigh in as well!

but like. i think like. all the basic lesbian flags come to mind, like double venus symbols, rainbows, flannels, and the like (wearing a double venus somewhere on your person, maybe as a necklace, is one of my favorite flags because it states fairly unambiguously that you are a woman who is into other women). also an undercut/partially shaved haircut of some sort is both very butch and very lesbian, and displays gender non-conformity really well. and wearing keys on a carabiner is a well-known, albeit maybe a little old-fashioned, lesbian thing as well!

are there any long hair styles that “look butch” or can attract other gay gals to me ?? i don’t wanna cut my hair but i wanna look gay 😭😭

i’m a big fan of like. a man-bun sort of deal, or a long braid, maybe! if you’re willing to cut a little bit you could shave the sides/a side/some of the back/whatever… there are a lot of good partially shaved styles. and just leaving it loose around your face is also quite a Look, to be honest. you got this!

do yall have any advice for presenting butch as a trans person (amab) but not getting misgendered? like how do I make it clear I'm not a man while presenting masculine?

hm well there are certain butch fashions that although they are masculine, they aren’t as commonly worn by cishet men, such as flannels or really tacky/colorful button ups or sweaters. you can also accessorize, with things that clearly state “lesbian” (such as pins or double venus necklaces or rainbows)! pronoun pins might also help if you go by she/her. for hairstyles, you def don’t have to shave your head, you can be a long haired butch! or you could try other forms of hairstyles that will read as gay, such as a side shave, or dying your hair a fun color.

lastly, if you can find a good trans-friendly space where you feel comfortable expressing yourself/talking about your identity, and/or close friends who are able to back you up, you may be able to just explain your identity to the people in this space so that they all understand that presenting masculine does not equal man! i know this might be difficult to find tho :( i wish u both the best!

Got any butch swimwear recommendations/suggestions?

a lot of butches just wear shorts/swim trunks/board shorts/whatever and a sports bra! personally, i got swim trunks and a simple bikini top and i wear those :-) or you can wear a swim shirt/rash guard. and if you bind check and see if you can swim in your binder– i know that you can in gc2b binders, but their website has more detailed instructions on how that works (or i think you can get swim binders as well). tomboyx also has a gender neutral swimsuit sort of thing that covers a whole lot of body!

So I’m trying to flag more as a butch, I was wondering if you had any good suggestions for a cologne that I could get that would help me flag better? Something you think femmes or lesbians in general would really like

oh gosh i don’t know anything about cologne lol, followers? any recommendations? honestly i’m sure that anything that you personally think smells nice, other women will as well. just make sure not to overdo it!

do you have any tips for presenting more butch whilst still,, mostly, in the closet? my parents know im wlw and theyre okay with it but they arent okay with things like me wearing mens clothes and cutting my hair, i just feel kind of uncomfortable abt it and could use some help from more 'out' butches :)

put your hair up in a hat if/when you can! ponytails/loose buns also work. “boyfriend” jeans might help you, too– they’re women’s jeans but they were the only jeans i liked wearing back when i 1. dressed femininely and 2. wore jeans. or any sort of loose clothing. also if your parents are okay with you being into women you might be able to work on the clothes thing gently over time, like dress as butch as you can for now and eventually they might start to let you dress more and more the way you want to. oh also if you’re getting t shirts and there’s a choice between “unisex” and “women’s” or “fitted” get the unisex one because women’s/fitted t shirts are terrible. tuck in your shirt when you can, and get a belt if you can also. good luck!
