cameramen x reader - in calabasas / fluff
warnings: fluff, friendship, swearing, dumb decisions, chaotic energy (i hate using that corny ass word)

the house still felt unfinished in that quiet, messy way where everything was technically there but nothing actually looked put together. boxes were stacked in corners, some open, some just sitting there like people forgot about them halfway through unpacking, and there were random cables and clothes thrown across counters like nobody had the energy to deal with it yet.
you had been helping most of the morning, but at some point it turned into standing around while everyone else argued about where things should go like it actually mattered that much. you ended up in the kitchen, leaning against the counter, scrolling through your phone without really paying attention while laiys sat across from you messing with his keys, drew half laying back in a chair, and gilbert and jawhn nearby not doing anything at all.
“do you guys know anything around here?” you asked, glancing up.
“not really,” laiys said.
“no,” drew added. “i’ve seen like one place.”
“same,” jawhn said. “nothing useful.”
you looked at gilbert and he just shrugged slightly. “we can go find something.”
you stared at him for a second, then pushed yourself off the counter. “yeah let’s just leave before someone asks us to keep unpacking.”
that was enough to get everyone moving, and a few minutes later you were all in the car, music playing low while you pulled out of the neighborhood. it felt normal at first, quiet conversation, nothing too loud, but it didn’t take long before it was obvious nobody actually knew where you were going.
“you got directions?” you asked.
“yeah,” laiys said.
drew looked over at him. “you sure?”
“yes drew.” he repeated, a little too confidently.
you watched out the window for a bit, but after a few turns something felt off. the same buildings, the same corners, the same gas station coming back into view like you’d already passed it.
“did we already go this way?” you asked.
“no,” laiys said.
jawhn leaned forward slightly. “i think we did.”
“we didn’t,” laiys replied, then paused for a second. “…okay maybe once.”
you leaned back in your seat, smiling a little. “you don’t even know where you’re going.”
“i’ll figure it out,” he said.
drew let out a quiet laugh. “that’s not the same thing.”
laiys glanced at him. “why are you acting like you know the fucking way to go.”
“i don’t,” drew said. “but i know this isn’t it.”
gilbert looked up from his phone. “we looped already.”
“…we’re good,” laiys said, and you just shook your head, not even arguing because at least you were out of the house.
eventually you ended up somewhere that actually looked like something, a nicer shopping area with clean storefronts, people walking around dressed like they had plans, and restaurants that didn’t look cheap.
“this works,” you said as you got out.
“yeah,” jawhn nodded.
“see,” laiys said.
drew glanced at him. “you just got lucky.”
laiys just shrugged. “we’re here though.”
you walked around for a bit first, going into random stores, leaving almost as fast as you walked in, just looking at things you weren’t going to buy. it was easy, nobody rushing, just moving from place to place until you passed balenciaga and all of you slowed down at the same time.
“we’re going in,” jawhn said.
“we’re not buying shit,” you replied.
“i know,” he said. “still.”
you all went in anyway, and it was quiet inside, everything spaced out like it was way more serious than it needed to be. prices you didn’t even have to check to know they were ridiculous. laiys picked up a hoodie, looked at the tag for half a second, then set it back like nothing happened.
“yeah i’m getting this next check,” he said.
drew looked at him. “i guess you’re getting that.”
“i will,” laiys replied.
“you’re not spending that much on a hoodie,” drew said.
“watch me,” laiys said.
jawhn was looking at shoes, nodding slightly like he was convincing himself. “these are hard though.”
“how much?” gilbert asked.
jawhn showed him and gilbert just shook his head a little. “yeah… no.”
you laughed quietly, walking past them. “you guys are just actually larping at this point.”
“no i’m serious,” laiys said. “next check.”
drew nodded. “mentally, yeah.”
you smiled, shaking your head as you all walked out a few minutes later with nothing but opinions.
—
you ended up at a restaurant after that, one of the nicer ones nearby, the kind where everything felt a little too clean and the menus didn’t have pictures. you slid into your seat, looking around slightly.
“this is kinda nice,” you said.
“yeah,” gilbert nodded.
drew leaned back a little. “better than fast food.”
laiys rested his arm on the table. “we earned it.”
you looked at him. “for what.”
“unpacking and organizing duh.” he said.
drew let out a quiet breath. “yea cause you did a lot of work…”
you smiled slightly, opening the menu, and the conversation stayed easy from there, nothing forced, just random topics, small jokes, talking between bites once the food came. jawhn started saying something at one point and then paused halfway through.
“wait what was i saying,” he said.
“no idea,” you replied.
“you lost it,” drew added.
“nah it was something,” jawhn said.
“it wasn’t important,” gilbert said while covering his mouth full of food, and you just smiled, taking another bite.
when you finished eating, nobody really said anything about going back, you guys knew you weren’t done yet.
“we’re getting something sweet,” you said.
“yeah,” laiys nodded. “i’m not going home yet.”
“same,” drew added.
you ended up at an ice cream place nearby, walking in like it had already been decided. it was colder inside, brighter, simpler, and somehow that made it feel better after the restaurant. you stood there for a minute looking at flavors.
“omg i’ma get fat,” jawhn said.
“like you already aren’t?” drew replied.
“you eat candy and chipotle everyday,” he said. “shut the fuck up.”
you ordered first just to get it over with, stepping to the side while the others figured theirs out, still debating even while you were paying.
“you take forever,” laiys said.
“because i actually think about it,” jawhn replied.
“it’s fucking ice cream,” gilbert said. “it’s not that serious.”
“it is,” jawhn said, and you laughed quietly, taking your cup.
you all went outside after, sitting nearby, eating and talking like nothing really changed. the air was cooler now, the sky darker, but still nobody was in a rush to leave.
“this was better than staying at the house,” you said.
“way better,” drew agreed.
“we didn’t even do anything,” gilbert added.
“exactly,” you said.
laiys nodded slightly. “we still made something out of it.”
drew glanced at him. “don’t say it like that.”
“like what,” laiys said.
“like it means something,” drew replied.
you laughed, shaking your head. “he’s trying to make it deep.”
“i’m not,” laiys said.
“you are,” jawhn added.
gilbert laughed, “you’re actually a dork.”
laiys just exhaled a little, looking away. “whatever.”
—
getting back was quieter, everyone a little more relaxed, a little tired, but still talking here and there. you still took a wrong turn at some point.
“this isn’t right,” you said.
“it’s fine,” laiys replied.
drew looked at him. “you said that already.”
gilbert checked his phone. “we’re off again.”
laiys let out a small breath. “…alright.”
you leaned back, smiling a little. “i knew it.”
drew shook his head. “we’re not letting you drive next time.”
“you’re still getting in the car,” laiys said.
“we’ll see,” drew replied.
by the time you got back, it was later than you planned, but nobody really cared. you got out of the car, still talking as you walked back inside.
“i’m not going out with you if you’re driving again,” you said.
“you will though so it’s fine,” laiys replied.
you shook your head. “no.”
jawhn laughed quietly. “she will.”
you smiled a little, walking back into the house with them, the noise picking up again the second the door opened, but it didn’t feel as boring as it did before you left.
