Avoiding Hans/Dining Dollars=Avoiding most food?
Over the past month back at school after break, I deliberately decided I needed to start going to the Hans much more so I could use more meal swipes and waste less, even though it is not my favorite place to eat. I started to go as much as possible, and soon enough began to feel gross after each meal I had there.
I feel that a huge issue with the Hans is the quality of the food, and the lack of options there, allowing many people to get sick of it, to be left feeling gross/sick after eating there, and not having satisfied stomaches afterwards. What does that lead to? It leads to students wanting to eat there less and less, and some to the point where they learn to avoid eating there completely.
I have to admit, this is where I stand with the Hans. I can barely eat there anymore without feeling weird after or not feeling well, or not being full because they didn't even have anything I desired. I know I am not the only one feeling this way, it is a common issue within Drexel students.
So when you try to avoid Hans, there are still dining dollars you can use from the meal plan. The issue now is having enough dining dollars to even survive you a few weeks. There are very limited dining options that take dining dollars in the first place, and it gets very old very fast. Not to mention it is very easy to run out quickly, knowing how expensive all of these options are, AND that they tax us... may I remind you that we are poor college students on a meal plan??? Why should they feel the need to tax us when we already paid for a meal plan?? But anyways back to my point... once the options of eating at Hans and using Dining Dollars are eliminated...what does that leave you with?
Nothing...except spending money on food or groceries other places. This is what I have began to do, and I think it is completely unfair that the meal plan was not optional freshman year because of this. The amount of money spent on the meal plan is absolutely ridiculous. When calculated, each meal at the Hans comes out to be $13. I don't even feel that I would spend more than $8 for food that quality, especially at a college dining hall.
It just makes no sense to me. I feel like our school should really be more concerned with the students and their health rather than the money they are getting from us that we are not even spending wisely on unhealthy food with limited dining options.
