So proud of my drill team. During our most recent competition, we pulled through a stressful and disorganized morning to place in every category and win the overall city title. (Not to mention the state title our shooting team won just last week.)
I hope I can make it to Drill Comp this weekend... I'm getting sick, and today at drill practice I fell down the stairs. And I may or may not have twisted my ankle in doing so... Fun times.
what a weekend it's been!
Drill competition prep friday, competition saturday. One of the teams I commanded was the only one to bring home a trophy this time, but we still have lots of work to do to get 1st next time. I also made some new friends and had a blast hangin with my girl Tessie.
The girl who was supposed to take me home, her car wouldn't start so her dad had to come out and jump it. Then we went to sonic but we were too afraid to turn the car off so we wasted a shit ton of gas and I stuffed my face with a ton of coney dogs and a slushie. I also looked like a hobo. One of my friends came out to meet us and shilled with us and ended taking me back to my house, since the girl who was originally supposed to bring me home was having car issues.
I got a call from my boo thing and it was sweet as heck, he even left me this adorable text to wake up to and made me feel tons better. He's paying for my ROTC trip to Washington D.C. and gave me extra spending money because I "deserve to treat myself every now and again" which is so nice of him and he wanted to help my parents out. This past week and a half I've been having hella internal conflict and emotional issues, it's been cray but I'm sooo glad things are better. Now I'm watching the Mighty Ducks 2 because I'm rad as hell.
Here in about an hour I've gotta leave to go teach sunday school, which is always a hoot. I've got plans to build a fort and tell some of my favorite stories. Those kids are my favorite kids like ever, they're sweeties. I may or may not go dress shopping today and I have homework to do, but over all I'm feeling well-rested and confident in myself. Senioritis is a bitch but I'm fighting it tooth and nail.
Game on bitches.
As you may know, Saturday was the Drill Competition. Our unit got up there and did their thing, with a lot of us being first-timers in competition (including me). After we finished, you should have heard the audience cheering. It was unreal. I remember walking off of the drill pad with everyone with this huge smile on my face. We may have only won fourth, but no other unit had people cheer for them as loud as they did us. And it was amazing.
I've only got three hours of sleep the past 48 hours and my back is killing me even more but today was definitely worth it. Judged my old high school's JROTC drill comp and it was great seeing old friends and reliving those memories of being on the drill floor again, but in a different perspective. Met a few wonderful officers and airmen and they shared with me stories from their military careers and it is amazing to see the opportunities offered in their work fields. Talked to a Master Sergeant who is currently an Honor Guard Commander but specializes in the security force; I learned that if I were to be a contracting officer or financial analyst, I would only go between two bases in 4 to 5 years but if I were to go in as security force, I'd be reposted to another country every six months. Talking to these guys made me see again why I want to join the military..their careers, adventures and networks are absolutely amazing. Hopefully I'll be selected to go to field training and be commissioned next year.
So when I get to school today, I'm not going to say anything about the drill competition. I'll see who remembered out of all my "friends" that it was this weekend. I'm going to be 1. Even if the others do remember, they're not going to listen while I try to explain why we lost. I mean Julia might listen if I say Coreys name. But that's only because she's completely obsessed with a guy who's made it clear he doesn't like her back. But that's another story. Still, I'm not going to bring it up.
Today really showed how disorganized and unprepared the Greenwave Battalion is. Yet another year of disappointment and no trophies to bring home.
