Drilling and tapping three M5 holes into my lathe’s cast steel cross sled assembly this evening. Keeping it all metric, even the mods. The last bit of steel I did this to was some 303 stainless steel. It was a BEAST: I broke a drill bit and a tap in it. Not fun. This hunk of milled cast is not even a pale shadow of that material.
