Week of drinks is happening, might as well kick it off with the life of the party. The Boy Witch is pretty wild to be around especially at raves.
Ingredients:
1.5 parts José Cuervo Platino
1 Frozen hollowed out lime filled with Rhum Barbancourt 5 Star
5-10 dashes of H^3 bitters (Honey Hibiscus Habenero) drizzled along the sides of the glass
Splash of Goldschläger
Sugar, salt and cinnamon
Hollow out lime with knife or peeler, freeze. Once frozen take out and fill with rum. Cover glass haphazardly with sugar, salt and cinnamon. Pour tequila on bottom, drop lime filled with rum in, drizzle H^3 bitters along the inside of the glass and then splash some Goldschläger on top. Swirl.
Why?
José Cuervo Platino: My initial take on the Boy Witch was that he was that guy at the party that does the crazy shit and the one that ends up naked and covered in blood by the end of the night... but more on that later. He's flirtatious, winking at you, touching your shoulder, sliding down your body. Tequila to me is the 'lets party and get shitty' liquor and also the liquor that I know has caused many of my friends to sit weak and shaking on the floor of the shower as it rained down upon them vowing never to touch it again after a wicked bender. Yet, Boy Witch is classy, he does wear a tux, so a top shelf tequila for this boy.
Hollowed out frozen Lime & Rhum Barbancourt 5 Star: Rum is another party drink to me (my favorite), but while originally I saw him only as this promiscuous wild character, I soon understood he was much more. He was troubled and flawed and so very raw. Rhum Barbancourt 5 Star is a good spiced rum, and depending on how you drink it tastes a bit different. Just like watching the Boy Witch. Depending on when you catch him, you see a different side of him. The hollowed out frozen lime? Looks can be deceiving. One moment Boy Witch is getting his groove on at the rave, the next minute there's a goat demon. Never know what you're going to get.
H^3 Bitters: Homemade batch made a while ago and fit so perfectly with the Boy Witch. He's hot, sweet and yes, at times pretty (well first loop anyways). Drizzling the bitters along the side of the glass allows the heat from the habenero to evaporate a bit into your eyes and you'll be tearing up just as you do when you watch him sing 'Is that all there is?'
Goldschläger: To me he's the flashiest of the inhabitants of the McKittrick, and nothing quite catches one's eye as the glint of sunlight off gold. He's also the youngest of the witches (imo), and the youngest child tends to be the most precious, and gold is the most precious metal.
Sugar, Cinnamon, Salt: Sugar spice and everything nice. He is a boy after all. And cover the glass with it. All over. Boy Witch tends to be a hot mess most of the night.
Vessel: Hurricane Glass: After following him around for a loop you feel like you have been tossed around as if in a hurricane. Pulled down stairs, splashed with blood, water, sweat, and tears. And still at the end, he'll wink and take your hand, walking you out of the storm thanking you.
If you want to make your own H^3 bitters I can give you a rough estimate of how I made mine, (usually only takes a week or so). Or you can probably muddle some habeneros and shake with the tequila before pouring it in the drink.
And if you can't make this one, you should be able to make tomorrow's.
