I am growing spinach — lots of spinach. This is my spinach saga. Last year, I planted two little Malabar spinach plants, which I had never grown before. They thrived. Late Fall, the plant seemingly died, so this Spring I searched for more. Due to the coronavirus, I had to look online. I guess everyone else was doing the same thing, so I couldn’t find any. For that reason, I did not plant any. One day, I noticed that the two plants were coming back. What I didn’t know was that spinach reseeds. I noticed that little plants were springing up 6-8’ from the “Mother” plants. At first, I didn’t know what they were since I hadn’t planted anything in any of the other containers. By the time that I identified them, I had at least 40-50 little plants growing in one big container, at least 20 in another. The first video shows the “mother” plants, and the second shows some of their offspring. Although I’ve given away some of them away, I still have too many. If you are in the Austin or Dripping Springs area, and want some spinach plants, let me know. I hate to do so, but I have to thin them out. They grow very fast, and are easy to grow in pots or other containers. For those without lots of space, I have the mother plants growing on a 6’ trellis. Have a great week!
