The signs I ordered for our yard came yesterday, and it couldn't have been a more appropriate day.
We live on a relatively busy road, and my kids are both becoming full on biking, skating, board sports rats just like their ma. There is a sidewalk for them to ride on, but it's still by the road, and drivers still whip around our corner way too fast. What if they fall or skid out and a driver's going too fast or not bothering to look?
We go over riding and road safety all the time at home, but I won't teach my kids to let fear keep them from trying new things or achieving their goals. A sign is just a sign, but here's hoping it reminds drivers that they live in a society we all share. We owe it to each other to watch out and take care.
RIP Johnny. Hopefully part of your legacy will be lives spared by all the drivers who'll remember you and think twice, take a breath, and be mindful that we all share the road. Getting anywhere 2 minutes faster or home after one too many drinks isn't worth taking a life.
