Some thoughts about volume 1 of Danganronpa: Kirigiri!
Yui Samidare: I love her! Her personality is very endearing overall. You could tell by the first flashback even that she’s very dedicated to her work, even giving up the life of a normal school girl to it. She’s cool, and I love her teasing side!
Her motivation for her job is pretty cool! I could just envision a little girl swearing to become a detective to solve the case of her dead sis, feeling extremely guilty that she couldn’t save her. And then slowly loosing sight of what she wants to do in this position, yet not truly losing resolve.
Also lmao the “heroes of justice” thing is cheesy, yet I’m in for cheesy as I’m a sucker for shonen. I like that her naivety is being proven wrong instead of being praised by the narrative.
Her dynamic with Kyōko is so far really cool, and I like her protectiveness over her. Yui also doesn’t seem to see Kirigiri as a replacement of her dead sister, which is vv cool!
Speaking of Kyōko, this novel is finnaly getting me to like her! It’s not like I disliked her before, I was just neutral on her for some reason. But now, I’m invested in her and her backstory. (She’s also super cute, and I’m protective over the little kids in the stories because of my inner big sis side!)
The indoctrination of the Kirigiri seems so scary, that such a young girl wouldn’t care to lose her life just to solve a case, something that was taught to her ever since she was a toddler...from what I gather, she never really was given a chance to learn about being anything BUT a detective, and she really dedicated her whole life to this. I hope Samidare gets her to not base herself in her career.
Now, let’s talk about the culprit, Asuka....I like him! He’s pretty sympathetic and one of the blackeneds I like in the series! His death was even sad to me, even. (I also cannot help but think that the fire is foreshadowing That Thing I was spoiled that happens. ;-;)
Also, Amino and Inuzuka were pretty likeable while they were still alive! I was a bit sad to see them go in the flashbacks.
Hope the rest of the volumes are as good as, if not more, than this one! Really enjoying DR: Kirigiri so far!
I haven’t even finished DR Krigiri’s first volume yet I like Yui :)
