Charlie Knox has wanted to be a doctor ever since he was a small boy, but his parents were intent on him studying the law. When he announced his intention of going to medical school, his family refused to help him.
He traveled to Aerugo and attended one of the best medical schools in that country, working at local hospitals and part time jobs to help pay his expenses. During this time he travelled to Creta as part of a relief effort in the tribal conflicts that plagued the country, and there he was able to treat burn victims. Upon completing his residency as a surgeon, Knox returned to Amestris.
