What’s in a Decade?

Kris was still a few minutes out, but he felt like he needed to be there now. “I’m almost there, babe. Give me just a few more minutes and I’ll be there to take you home.” And while it was sad that everything had suddenly fallen apart on Dallas, Kris was grateful that he had been there to catch him when he’d started to fall.
A few minutes later, he pulled up outside of the dilapidated building and got out of the car. Running a hand through his hair, he let out a little sigh before he walked up to the door and knocked. Opening it, he called out, “Dallas! I’m here!”
As the door swung open, Dallas was sitting on his mattress, back propped against his one trunk and head fallen back against the lid of it. He hadn’t moved at the knock, knowing that the door was unlocked and no one else would be coming to see him. Even if it was someone unsavory what more could they take from him at this point. He had nothing but Kris now.
The brunette lifted his hand up to show that he heard his pet’s voice before it fell back against the mattress limply.
“I’m starting to think it’s me...is there just...something about me that screams, please abandon me?”
