Health professionals speak up and get attacked personally by the antivax community
"Vaxxed" the movie is spreading around the world like a nasty virus through a system of "secret screenings" and also being accepted at film festivals ..... In New Zealand last night, a brave Dr Lance O'Sullivan (New Zealander of the year 2014) was invited to a screening of "Vaxxed". He attended as invited, and spoke to the audience of the dangers of spreading information that can cause harm. He bravely stood up in protest - said his piece - and is now copping the flack from the antivax community. Video footage shows a strong antivax advocate yelling at him, then doing something that annoys me more than most things - calling him a bully as she labels herself victim. As a health professional it is terrifying to enter social media spaces in regards to people's 'feelings' about a 'debate' that doesn't exist. Whilst a need to understand parents' fears is important, as health professionals we need to engage with the fence-sitters, acknowledge their fears, and provide evidence based info in a non judgemental way. There's a few links here, including news reports, video of his speech, and his response afterwards. Thank you for standing up and expressing your concerns for public health Dr Lance O'Sullivan. http://i.stuff.co.nz/national/92930523/northland-doctor-lance-osullivan-is-a-conscientious-public-health-campaigner https://thespinoff.co.nz/science/24-05-2017/nzer-of-the-year-dr-lance-osullivan-on-why-he-stormed-the-stage-at-an-anti-vaxx-screening/ https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/watch-your-presence-here-cause-babies-die-dr-lance-osullivan-stuns-guests-anti-vax-doco-leaping-stage-explain-why-their-message-killer?ref=emailfriend
