Found this cool guy chillin’ on the railing of my balcony. My sense is that he’s not a bee but some kind of fly. Eyes don’t seem bee-like to me. Any thoughts as to id? He’s in Victoria Canada.
You're right, definitely a fly rather than a bee. It's a hover fly, and one of the drone flies in the genus Eristalis. Looks male from what I can see of the eyes!
