The town of Burgess Hill does very little to portray itself as something it is not, like many other supposedly ‘up and coming’ areas. Like everywhere else, it has its nice and not nice patches. Though, the sometimes forgotten about estate breaks all the rules. Despite its current surge in terms of technology system based businesses in the likes of CAE, the pilot training centre and PARK Cameras, the fast growing camera store, the industrial estate continues to weep a cold emptiness around its corners. The business park itself represents about 200 companies, employs roughly 8000 people, with a combined yearly turnover of 2 billion. Though, it still dons a notably strange mash-up of dilapidated structures, sparkling new structures and also structures, which have never been completed. A concrete jungle clustered down into a couple of square miles and mapped around a spider web of all too confusing roads. I myself have driven around it confused on numerous occasions. In this mini project, I tried to highlight the empty voids of angular wasteland; the stuff that’s not normally noticed by the eye, but has its own irregular beauty when looked back on. I feel like it is a place, which has been overlooked in terms of documentary photography, so here is a starting point.
