I think Georgie and Pete would like Michael Jackson’s music, there’s no way they like the same shit as Alex. Aint nobody listening to classical but Alex. Dim listens to whatever’s on the radio, maybe owns a few odd vinyls and cassettes. I can only see Pete owning a few singles on vinyl and a couple of casettes, he doesn’t seem like the type to buy full albums whereas Georgie seems like the type to buy a full album on vinyl or cassette just for one song he likes.

Also I feel like Pete wouldn’t own a working record player or cassette player so he has to bring his stuff to Alex’s or Georgie’s places to listen to it. I can see dim owning a beat up record player that skips a bit but not a cassette player, I can see him buying cassettes and just never using them. I know tons of people who collect physical media without a way to use it or even intention to use it so it’s not outlandish to assume some of these lot would fall into those categories.

Records were far more common than casettes in the 60s-80s but I think they’d all own a mix of both considering Alex liked a good cassette in the movie. I do wonder what records Alex had in his room because we were never shown… surely it can’t ALL be classical.

How the other droogs felt being forced to listen to Alex’s music taste

I’ve always thought it would be funny if Georgie was like ridiculously afraid of basil but tried to front like he wasn’t. Saying yeah when Alex asks if he wants to hold him and he just tenses up and kind of stands there while Basil just hangs out in his hands and maybe slithers up his arm. I think he’d crack if Basil slithered up to his neck though and tell Alex to take his snake back.

I think dim wouldn’t be bothered by basil’s presence but wouldn’t like the idea of holding him because he heard that snakes are slimy, even if alex says they aren’t slimy dim still refuses. Probably says Ew if basil brushes up against him if he’s too close to Basil.

Pete would feel a little awkward around Basil because he’s never been around a snake before, he’ll hold him but won’t seem thrilled by it. He’d just linger by Alex with basil in his hands until Alex takes Basil back. I think if Basil slithered up around his neck he wouldn’t be scared but he wouldn’t want to leave him there either.

I’ve always pictured Alex as the type of snake owner to just walk around the house with the thing around his neck which really isn’t that responsible but come on we’ve seen he isn’t a responsible snake owner. He forgets to feed Basil sometimes (considering basil’s size I think weekly feedings would be standard iirc) and tells himself it’s fine because snakes can survive a while without food. He’d buy frozen mice and rats for basil and defrost them in a cup of warm water before feeding them to Basil and his parents would always tell him off for leaving a cup of warm water with a cold, dead rodent in it just out on the counter.

Deltoid would probably be disgusted by the idea of a snake,pulling faces whenever Alex mentions Basil. Alex wouldn’t offer to let him hold Basil and deltoid wouldn’t have held Basil either way.

Are some of these a little unrealistic and out of character? Maybe. Do I care? No.

Honestly I just wanted to see some basil related headcanons from someone who actually knows how snakes work because I have a pet snake and it’s so frustrating seeing people who aren’t snake owners try to speak about basil. Mine probably aren’t perfect, like I only own a snake I’m not a professional when it comes to snakes But I just wanted to share ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

People always speak about Georgie/Dim but never about Georgie/Pete or Dim/Pete…. Smh sad world we live in.

I get the appeal of Georgie/Dim in the movie specifically but in the novel I personally think Georgie/Pete makes more sense. I don’t have a reason as to why I think dim/pete would work out, I just think they’d look nice together.

Honestly couldn’t care less for Alex/Pete, there’s moments I like but I just can’t see a romantic relationship between them. Personally I always saw their dynamic as Alex boarderline harassing Pete because he thinks it’s funny, like that moment in the radio play or whatever it was called where Alex went “righty right o Pete of my heart.”

I think that quote was from a scene where he was pressuring Pete to agree with him on something but I could be totally wrong because it’s been like multiple years since I listened to it,,,

Dim/Georgie was popular because of the movie (like you said) meanwhile Pete x Alex was a classic Pair The Spares™ moment that people projected onto

If I may add, I think Deltoid being a full-on creep in the movie (he was obviously written to come across as one) fits the themes of the story well. The whole 'violence makes violence' thing? The cycle of abuse? The droogs' behavior in their own little microcosm being a reflection of what the government is willing to do (and does) to its own citizens on a larger scale? Alex being another link in the chain of violence, abusing people, possibly as a way of reacting to his own abuse?

Not justifying his actions obvsly, but the assault(s) by Deltoid would explain why he is so nonchalant about sexual violence. It's all speculation since we don't know any of the characters' backstories, but it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that Alex isn't the only victim of SA, considering the behavior and overall state of the boys (both Alex's and Billy's gang). They're out all night, likely all skipping school, engaging in criminal activities with no caring and/or capable adults ever being in the picture-- it's safe to say no one's looking after their welfare. And since they're all lower/working class, by the looks of it, society doesn't bother providing support, probably writing them off as lost causes and 'lowly prols doing lowly prol things'.

The chance of authority figures like Deltoid abusing their power and subjecting them to SA (among other things) is therefore likely.

So yeah, I think Deltoid is a good character in the sense of representing the types of adults who work with disadvantaged youths specifically for the power trip, knowing they can get away with near-everything because no one will believe the victims, or even care about them. It's something I don't see the fandom discussing enough tbh. Probably because the prison/ludovico arc takes the spotlight for the topic of authority-issued violence, eclipsing more common horrors like Deltoid.
