Having some OC thoughts again!
This time about Sarah, you all seem to enjoy when I talk about here so might as well share more! This time I think I'll go a little more into her relationships because she's got a lot of interesting ones. Now, remember in the AU (of the AU) where she lives she's only 15 and has only been with Xeno's group since she was about 11-12 so this is going to influence so much. Her father, Ismael, is pretty cautious so he would be invested in making sure where he's bringing his daughter is safe. This also means that he's going to be taking his time with introducing Sarah to Stanley (in this AU we have Stanley/Ismael) and given Stanley's over all.... everything, her relationship with him is going to be the most complicated.
Luna
Honestly, this one surprised me! Luna and Sarah have an almost sister-like bond with one another. Luna tries her best to keep Sarah out of trouble like an older sister and Sarah keeps things interesting by finding trouble. Luna was Sarah's first friend at the castle and Sarah finds her approachable due to Luna reminding her a lot of her dad for some strange reason... (it's the anxiety).
Charlotte
Known as "auntie charlotte", Sarah tries to help her out with stuff and imitates her. Charlotte just humors her and generally speaking keeps her distance due to Ismael not getting along well with her (Sarah does not care who her dad does and doesn't get along with). It should be noted that Sarah tries to help just about everyone... however as a teenager her 'help' has varying degrees of actual helpfulness. I like to imagine that Charlotte does try to teach her how to fly, but it's hard to do in the planes they have.
Brody
He's very patient with Sarah! He does his best to teach her things about engineering even though it's clear to him that her heart's just not in it. She enjoys going to visit him to pass the time and when she makes a mistake he usually laughs it off and shows her how to fix things. He's absolutely an uncle to her and given his age he may have had kids of his own/had friends who had kids so he'd also understand Ismael's feelings when it came to making sure Sarah was safe and probably be able to explain things a little better. I don't think he would have forgotten what it's like being a kid and be able to advocate for Sarah when she does get into trouble. It's thanks to him that she realizes that Stanley does care, he's just bad at showing it. I love their relationship so much and I think he's a really good role-model for her.
Xeno
Sooooo while Sarah generally speaking gets along with just about everyone (she's just very social), she's also aware of when she's not appreciated. She knows Xeno is prickly and likes his own space so she tends to leave him alone. Sometimes she does want to be around him and goes to visit, usually bringing a warm beverage (she doesn't understand lab safety at first) or letting him know when meals are ready. When he starts getting too annoyed by her presence he starts going off on tangents about chemicals or aviation which typically is enough to make her bail. Unfortunately, this later turned into a game for her of how long she could endure his lectures (poor kid gets bored). Her most "harrowing" experience was when he made her copy the entire periodic table (she accidentally knocked over his notes.)
Stanley
And now here we are; her most complicated relationship. Stanley, generally speaking, does not seem like the paternal type. I don't think the thought of having kids ever crossed his mind, let alone adopting a preteen/teenager. Sure he has patience as a sniper, but kids take a different kind of patience and Stanley has a short temper as a character. Yes, he's tolerant of certain situations, but he also is emotionally distant, has baggage, and is a perfectionist. Sarah is going to be challenging to him in a way that his character will have a hard time adjusting to. Teenagers are frustrating, being around that is going to be frustrating for him while trying to also navigate a relationship with a man from a different background than he grew up with AND helping Xeno run a city.
This is going to be hard for him and he's going to have to be careful so he doesn't end up resenting Sarah for making his life difficult. He's going to need to respect Ismael's wishes regarding Sarah and I don't think that's the problem at all. I think the complicated part is Sarah's not sure what to expect since Stanley isn't fond of her but over time she grows on him. I think he would notice her interest in expeditions and try his best to teach her how to spar, I think if there was a splinter group that branched off from Xeno's he'd make sure they weren't a threat. In general, it's pretty safe to say he would do a lot of work behind the scenes but forget to be a little more obvious about the whole thing.
It's also important to remember that Stanley's trying his best to give Sarah the skills she'll need to survive, he's not going to try to relegate her to certain tasks. So he'll teach her things like the aforementioned sparring, sewing (a lost cause, but he's trying), shooting, etc. she already knows survival stuff from growing up in the stone world, but I think that having more than one parent would be good for her. Ismael gives in quickly and has a tendency to coddle her (he had Sarah young and she means everything to him) but Stanley has a little more structure to his expectations which I would have thought Sarah would resent him for, but so far it seems like she only has issues with him when he brings up her mother. Their relationship is a work in progress and will take time but it's honestly a lot of fun to explore from both sides.
And that's the general run-down of her relationships! I do have some thoughts with Maya, but those are mostly with her and Ismael at the moment since she is important as a confidant for him. The important thing is unlike Ismael, Sarah doesn't have a lot of reason to be guarded so she's pretty open and willing to make friends. That said, she does think she has to protect her dad and she's just mildly inconvenienced by most things. (Stanley thinks that her attitude is amusing until he has to deal with it)
