LETS TALK ABOUT DARK SHADOWS since you're on a posting spree. I keep trying to watch it (I'm in early season two I believe) but I just get SO uncomfortable with the non-consensual double whammy of Mrs. Stoddard's blackmail plot and Maggie's brainwashing. It's 24/7 "Let's Make Women Do Terrible Things Against Their Will: The Soap Opera". Do people seriously go through the series still thinking Barnabas is a tragic, misunderstood good guy?

see i love love love both of those plots - and the first is because i love to detest jason (because dennis patrick is a treasure) and it’s the last remnant of the pre-barnabas days, and the second because it’s so, so, so messed up and i adore barnabas as a villain but like -

okay. so jonathan frid was originally hired for 13 weeks to be a villain and then be killed off. and then he proved really popular, because i’m not gonna lie, he actually is a pretty interesting villain in my book (unless people actually were sympathizing with his josette shit back in the day, which wouldn’t surprise me).

and so the writers took this popularity to the next level and gave him a convoluted plot that basically is all LOOK AT THIS EVIL WOMAN WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR ROMANTIC HERO’S DESCENT INTO DARKNESS IT’S REALLY NOT HIS FAULT!!! and then we come out of that and suddenly - with no explanation other than “understanding his motives" - barnabas has gone from certifiable canon douchebag to romantic hero.

it’s total bullshit.

but i love this show so much.

vicki winters 4 always.

HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS CHARACTER

vicki winters is basically flawless. her hair is insured for $10,000 etc. but no - she gets way, way, way too much shit from the fandom - oddly enough, from the same people who don't want to admit that their gothic soap opera is flawed, often times. but she's a lot stronger than people give her credit for. so much stronger. and sorry barnabas collins aka your fave ruined that.

roger and quentin forever and for always. also, peter guthrie.

MY UNPOPULAR OPINION ABOUT THIS CHARACTER

she really didn't say "i don't understand" that much - and everyone who says she did clearly hasn't been in an experience where literally everything is different from what they expected in ways they never thought possible.

ONE THING I WISH HAD HAPPENED TO THIS CHARACTER IN CANON

being a precious time traveling princess AND ALSO POTENTIALLY THE GRIM REAPER and also not being killed by jeb hawkes. that's two things. but whatever.

I have been watching a lot of the 1966 Dark Shadows lately.

I get upset that I cannot live in Collinsport.

The dead don’t stay dead.

The Collins family deals with scandals by sweeping them under the rug.

David Collins has the beginnings of being a sociopath, his list of crimes includes:

Attempted Murder ( He tried to kill his father)

Sabotage (by removing the bleeder valve from his dad’s brake cylinder) 

False Imprisonment (Locking Victoria Winters in a closed off section)

Theft (stealing Mrs. Johnson’s cigarettes)

Arson (setting the fishing shack on fire) {though he was under the influence of his mother}

Is there a wedding? What was the proposal like? Any kind of honeymoon?

roger's a collins so basically there has to be. proposal wasn't necessarily fancy, but vicki just kind of ASSUMED that it would be happening so there was more of a mutual agreement than anything and oh my god i'm so tempted to be an ass and say that they went to boston for their honeymoon, but lbr, they probably went somewhere like paris.

Her wails reverberate off the walls and float up into the Old House at night.

Willie hears him in his bed, covers pulled around his head and Barnabas knocks on his door, voice deep and a command to do something about her.

He watches her from a barred window and her frame grows thinner with every sob that chokes through her. This isn't the girl he wants, no, it never was (as long as she screams, she never will be). Her crying isn't a sweet melody, Willie knows, but it's her (it's Maggie), and he feels sick to change it.

Quentin and Carolyn; 76 (1995 pllllsssss)

Quentin does not respond when Carolyn asks why he doesn't age. Why he seems younger than before, shaky speech and eyes so wide they threaten to swallow his face.

He doesn't know how, how to say he's older than he's ever felt, that the bones beneath his skin are as weak as ice and melting faster. He rots and breaks faster than the great estate and show does she, he knows. She wears it on her face, a wrinkle for every year, one more hair out of place.

He tells her she's seeing things. They both balance on shaky ledges.
