Summary
My final design model has been inspired by the movement and flow of a cape, forming a basic triangular shape where the top point connects with the neck and shoulders to the spreading its spreading out as it flows out. I used this image (of batman’s cape in particular) to inspire the dynamic visual movement I wanted my model to replicate. This visual transition is then complemented by the application of materials to my shape I used a simple length of wire to hold the planes of the curves in place. This wire was bent into a shape which followed the shape of these planes complementing them and allowing harmony between line and plane within the model. The thread connections holding the curved planes, which consist of rhino plastic, where chosen as they allowed the planes to overlap easily and held them in place. This allowed the planes to form a rigid curved shape that plays with figure ground and light that permeates through the layered semi translucent rhino plastic.
Overall, the final model which shifts from a large area to a point works well. I was enjoyable to make because although I was working with a relativity simple form and idea the craft involved in order to achieve that took time.
