thunderstorms. it was usually an awful foreboding, an omen for kieran. he never really liked the stormy weather despite growing up in atlantis. although they had their fair share of thunderstorms and passing tsunamis, nothing felt as dark as this one, with almost no signs of sunlight. the windows in the hallways were closed shut and the menacing wind pounded on the glassy surface.
kieran shoved his hands into his pockets, fingers curling because the pockets were just too small to encase his large palms. the cafeteria was bustling with hungry students, and he knew for sure that all his friends would’ve been away at their various clubs to make contributions. the swim season was over, and he found himself with almost nothing to do.
a familiar back came into view as he made his way to the other side of the area, and he stopped briefly in his tracks. was it right to go up and try to talk to her, at least? a mind battle found it’s way into his head, options ranging from (a) to (e) waiting to be selected. he could just walk away, under the false pretence that he ‘didn’t see her’, or he could just try to strike up a conversation at least. after all, it’s been a while since he last heard her speak, and something inside him was itching to hear her voice again.
making up his mind, he carefully took a seat across her, taking in the features that he had been so used to. kieran took a deep breath.
“hey.”
