Title Sequence - Style Frames, Animated Storyboard, and Fonts

Finalized Concept

I decided to go with the concept of title sequence starting with the sky (the stars are twinkling, and it is dawn). The camera eventually panning to a bedroom. The bed has Edward sitting and at the end his pocket watch starts ticking.

Design Brief

To display a title sequence animation that will emote the emotions of  bittersweet love and just a tad of “warmth” that was displayed within The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.

Scrapped Idea

I originally wanted to do a train and eventually focuses on a window with Edward peeking out from  it looking at the stars.

Music Interpretation- Style Frames, Color Palette, etc

My group is doing an interpretation of Voyd’s two songs.

The color palette:

I imagine something “angry” with constant flickering, evolving, and pulsing.

Angry, angular shapes.

Inspiration:

FRAME I - Scale

Gradual, but with fast paced pulsing.

Flashing back and forth.

FRAME II - SHAPE

Multi-sided shape.

Middle shapes, become 1 big shape.

The sides are pulsing beat.

For the first beat reverting back and forth.

FRAME III - COLOR

Uses. all colors in the selected palette.

Flickering.

Rhombi~!

FRAME IV - TRANSPARENCY

Spicy spikes~. Clockwise transparency/opacity for the transition.

GIF - Finished Project

The finished project. I changed the whole concept, but kept the colors and the cat.

I drew every single frame manually, so it is really sloppy.  TT^TT

I don’t know why, I did the  most tedious way. Especially with my indecisiveness.

GIF - Drafting & Storyboarding, etc.

This is the process I have so far made on the first project. The style of the animation is light-hearted and satisfying.

My inspiration in terms of rhythm and style are from:

 https://www.deviantart.com/johnsu/art/Radish-41479513 (One of my favorite GIFs of all time. I first saw this when I was 9 or 10 years old.)

I am planning to not have any line art for the animation. It will be playing with the concept of shape.

These are rough sketches or explorations I did for the animation. I tried out different styles.

In the end I ended up with this style:

This is the basic shape of the cat. I didn’t want to do anything too detailed or else I will nitpick at my work. Plus, I am noob at animation. I am rough on digital art because it has been a while. ^^;;

Here are the storyboard drafts:

The first board: happy cat.

Second board: The cat blinks and has a curious expression. Possibility that there is a zoom in slightly.

Third board: A content cat making bread. Tail and kneading moving in a rhythmic fashion.

Fourth: Continuing with the breadmaking.

Fifth: Stops and blushes.

The end.

This set of work shows the basic outline of the first storyboard.

My main goal is to make the movement of the body to be exaggerated. Hopefully I can do it~

UPDATE:

I changed my concept because I was getting more and more frustrated.

Now it is a cat playing with a fish toy. He gets super close but misses it anyway.
