5 years ago today, I started a journey. I found a place to express my love of house music, be self conscious, learn about letting go of my fear, whether it was a packed room or just me and the bartender. Then a pandemic paused the track. I decided to work on my global outreach and my creatorship with @mixcloud and have almost tripled the amount of ears listening to my “weekly 4 hours of my #blackboyhappyhour vibe” and I’ve been grateful to be heard and loved on different continents. I’ve done my best to NEVER miss a Tuesday ever in five years, even when life stepped in the way. It’s been the most valuable and intimate discipline and training I’ve ever loved. I have grown to even have a superstitious routine, where I have to eat certain things and curate my music in a specific way to know I’ll make the magic I keep challenging myself to top every week. Things I’ve learned so far: I’ve learned that energy in a room can inspire me. I’ve learned that the best sound in the world is the unexpected compliment. My favorite sound, however is my long exhale and unclenching of my jaw at the end of every set, when I know I did the damn thing. I started this journey, with the purpose of leaving behind me a legacy of mixes that were my interpretation, contribution and celebration of music that affected me. I’ve learned that if I have to fully believe I’m the best DJ I know. I’ve learned that I someday hope to do this thing I do for a room of people that consistently changing from city to city, and country to country. I’ve learned that this is what it takes to do that. I’ve learned that I’m grateful for my @kiandesworld72 , and my bestie, @yardenoir for being my sounding boards and extra set of extremely talented eyes. I’m grateful for my family at @downtowncocktailroom , for their guidance, encouragement and love. I’m most grateful for those who listen. Here’s to the future. 7/26/22.
