I just want to say that I've been feeling really lost from the tragedy that happened and I, really, did not have anyone to look up to. I try to firm up and endure and get on with life but, I'm still shaken inside. But, the way you address these issues with those asks firmly and powerfully, um, makes me feel not as lost, and makes me feel like we LGBT+ people can be strong, and we really are strong, so, thank you so much.
Glad I could help, even a little bit. It’s okay to feel lost. This is a pretty intense tragedy for our community, and for a lot of us, we don’t usually experience hate directly. Some of us live in decently safe places, and the LGBTQA community has made a lot of progress for equality in the past several years, so it’s easy to forget that there are still people out there who hate us. To be LGBTQA is an act of bravery in and of itself, and that’s where we need to find strength in our community (not on whether straight people are pleased with us or not). It’s 2016 and we deserve better than a tragedy like this, and better than having it played down because it hurts the sensibilities of straight people who think they live in a post-homophobic society. If you need anyone to talk to, hit me up on messenger. I can’t promise I can help, but I can listen.
