perusing ye olde archived alistair blogs for rebloggable content and coming across the dark ritual and honestly? the dark ritual isn’t funny. like, i get that it’s ironic, because alistair loathes morrigan and his instant reaction is “oh haha yeah right” but it really isn’t “ha ha” funny. there are very strong issues of dubious consent, because they wouldn’t be doing this if not for the circumstances. alistair thinks morrigan is just..... an absolutely disgusting human being. performing the dark ritual just makes him sick to his stomach, and it’s not really very funny. and that’s excluding the fact that he himself was a bastard who felt very abandoned by his own father, to which morrigan is just up and leaving with the baby. it’s ironic. but it’s not very funny.

          He isn’t ready to talk about the elephant in the room. Not in its entirety. His skin feels unclean as though thick with grime, and there’s an endless supply of frogs in his throat -- good for swamps, he’s sure, but certainly of no use in the Castle and of even lesser use against the Archdemon itself. He can hear Ruiha talking, but his gaze is stuck in the distance and her words fall on deaf ears. Morrigan keeps playing in his head. He doesn’t trust her. He trusts Ruiha. By the Void, does he ever. 

          Maybe that’s why this is so numbing. And so he cuts through the tension, ignoring everything that comes before.

          “You aren’t scared? About tomorrow, I mean.” He laughs hollowly. Nerves. “I mean, I know that none of us are exactly eager to run into the darkspawn horde headfirst. Just... What if we don’t even make it to the Archdemon before... you know.”
